Hi all
I have seen a few comments around the forums regarding car stereo's and thought it was about time we started a new forum.
I'm very keen on music in cars and have had a quality audio system installed which make the difference, especially after my last atttempts of installing equipment:(
Has anyone else fitted a TV screen / DVD yet ?
Also has the use of a Playstation 2 been thought of for DVD's etc ?
Hi Paul !
Couldn't resist this new topic :)
As you know my A2 will have the Audi TV/Sat nav. with BOSE.
This system has a 5 inch screen in normal 4:3 format.
And last week when I was out looking for a DVD player for my A2 I actually got that very idea from a salesman. He told me that the cheapest way to getting a DVD player in the car would be to use the PS2, which I of course have at home.
And the only thing i need to hook it up is a 12V to 220V transformer which cost the hefty sum of £70 :)
And then you of course get the added bonus of the entertainment of in car gaming :D

Hi Again BK,
Although I have just installed the Alpine 7893R MP3 head unit I am thinking of replacing it with a Alpine IVX-C806.
This unit has the required 3 pre-outs for 2 amps and one for signal processor. DVD - PS2 can then be plugged in. I have heard however they are wired so that when the car is running it cuts the DVD player off so you can't watch and drive :D

Paul !
Well that Alpine unit seems to be the perfect head unit for this use.
I couldn't find any information on the screen size of this unit on the Alpine homepage though. How large is it ? 6"...6,5" ?
It should be quite easy to bypass this function. I've had a Pioneer setup earlier and on this unit it was controlled by the ignition switch. All you had to do was to connect a wire to constant + and the problem was solved.
On the Audi you just buy a replacement cable (not original of course)swap it for the original and you will be able to watch TV or any other source of entertainment at any speed :D
My only concern is the screen size of the original setup in the A2.
It's just a 5" 4:3 screen, in contrast to the Pioneer unit which is a 7" 16:9 ! Just hope It's big enough [?]

BK !
It's A 6.5" unit but I have been looking at a 5" unit which to me would be fine, but as I want a CD / Screen in one it would appear that 6" - 6.5" is the normal size.
I have now found a power inverter as you said to run 220v in the car, this was offered to me as a package witha screen and connectors for the PS2 for £249. The screen is a Centurion which I have never heard of.

Does anyone know if the A2 has an electronic speed pulse connection on the ISO connector? as i have a Blaupunkt Travelpilot and on some cars you have to make the connection by piping into the speedo??
Please help!

Yep it should be there. My VDO Dayton system and my speed dependant volume both use it. And they work.
