We're new to the A2OC, so hi :-)

We've just bought a 2000 A2 --it's a 1.4 SE but doesn't have the CD player - we bought it because it was a good deal, but would like to now buy a front loader CD player.

We spoke to the dealer who said it would be cheaper going aftermarket (aka: Halford :-)

We would love to be able to get an original Audi front loader CD for our new A2 - we love our music but aren't intelligent enough to appreciate a Blaupunkt :-) but we would prefer to keep the A2-look rather than going to Halford.

Hope someone can help

cheers

I think you will find the the Audi units are only available from Audi dealers, unless someone here ahs one they want to sell.
The head unit in mine was made by Panasonic in Germany, but I have seen an identical unit made by Blaupunkt (I think).

Hope you find what you want.
Welcome to the forum by the way!

From what other people have said in the past, Ebay might be worth a try - just make sure you go for the right model as some of the later ones have different wiring (CanBus).

1.4SE petrol in Merlot Red, Biege interior, 16" 5 spoke alloys, DIS, Open Sky, Elec rear windows.

Thanks for the replies. I suppose if there is someone who has swapped their CD player for an aftermarket upgrade there's a chance someone out there has one to sell - please get in touch if anyone has.

Looking at the current UK spec's for the SE a CD is supposed to be included - is this a new thing, as the 2000 model we have obviously doesn't have it included.

It does have the 'Sport pack' (in that it has the chrome around the dials and gear-stick --haven't noticed much else!) if that makes any difference??

cheers

I think it is a fairly new thing. Mine is an SE and only came with the standard 'Chorus' tape player - probably the same as what you currently have.

I was told by my dealer on Saturday that the Audi single CD unit (now supplied on the SE as Stuart suggests, is priced at around £800 - do I hear a chorus(????) of contributors crying "who ever believed the word of an Audi salesman????)

Despite being of the opinion that the Chorus would not run a 6 stack CD unit, I have had fitted a Pioneer CD unit (which I had left over from a previous Golf) to my Oct 2001 SE which was delivered with a Chorus. The unit fits nicely under the front drivers floorwell and cost around £100 to fit. This would be considerably cheaper than going for the original Audi single CD unit.

Jessie,

So you must have a Chorus II model (CAN bus)? Which has a CD button, and must have a changer interface on back.

Original Chorus (non CAN bus) did not have CD button and only way to connect a CD changer was by an FM modulator.

Back to original question - you need the first Concert model (non CAN bus).

Or go for the FM modulator CD changer and separate controller. I believe Iain Tookey had a Kenwood C467FM FM changer fitted in glovebox - its 270mm W x 65mm H x 183mm D

My old 2002 A2 1.4SE had the Concert II front load CD player as standard, but I think it was only then they became so. £800 is a laugh.

Be warned on the old "cd changer in glove box"-I have a 6-cd Panasonic changer and I wouldn't say it is big, but it won't fit in the glove box due to the angle of how the glove box goes down at the back-make sure you offer up the changer first before ripping out your glovebox!.

I know you're after a head unit, but I've found two companies in the UK that sell CD changers that will work with Audi standard Concert/Chorus/Symphony stereos. I have contacted them both to see if I can get any sort of discount for A2OC members, so check with me before you buy.

Can anyone tell me of the Symphony 6 front loader CD unit will fit into our 2000yr A2?
Also, we only have two speakers (in the front) is it an easy job to get Halfords or similar to put new speakers in and more in the back?

It would have to be a Symphony I ( the one without the tape player). I'm fairly sure the Symphony II (current model with tape player) only works in CANbus cars.

Your local ICE shop should be able to help you. If you (or anyone else) are in the Surrey area I'd recommend Cats For Cars (Farnham 01252 734700)

Keep a look out for a Concert I on websites like ebay and findit.co.uk. They were used in the entire Audi range so its quite likely some will have been swapped out for upgrades at some point.
In fact there is one at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3293&item=1949038784 . Though its currently at £180, and its not clear whether its a Concert or Concert II

The one on eBay is a Concert, I take it the same goes for Concert I and II as with the Symphony I and II (ie: we cannot have the II in either case in our A2 2000yr model)??

Yes, I believe the Concert II only works in later A2s with CANbus wiring - this was in a couple of threads last year. Audi customer services should be able to confirm this.
You can check the ebay unit is the first model Concert by getting the model number off it and checking with any Audi parts dept (or internet). If it is brand new/boxed as described it looks a fair price.
