Hi!
Does anyone has experiences with armrest installation on the A2?
I've searched the web with no luck... It seams there is no factory armrest to install.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,

This came up a few months back - I have never seen or heard of a front armrest in an A2. That's not to say that a specialist company couldn't make one and fit it.

Hi,
I tried to find one to but it seems that there are none.
There are some universal models that can be fitted but they don't look as nice and have a different cloth.
Audi doesn't make one because they find the space between the frontseats to small and the lever of the handbreak is in the way.
I would definetly buy one !

I'm on to something...this afternoon I found an Italian company that makes after market accessories including armrests. They have one for an A3 and so I have emailed them asking if they would consider designing one for an A2. I did promise them lots of business so I hope there's more than 3 of us interested!! I'll keep you posted.

I had asked for an armrest also at the audi dealer. But there was none. If someone finds one, tell me!! because I really want one.

I am still waiting to hear back from the company that I mentioned previously. They said that they would decide during January 2003 what products they were going to start making for the A2 and would get back to me shortly.
I will let you know as soon as I hear back from them!

I have found a company that makes an armrest for the A2. They sent me a photo but have asked me not to publish it but I'll just say that it is very stylish and blends in well within the cabin.
I don't know costs yet but if I am able to get hold of some in the appropriate colours, would anyone be interested?

I now have the prices for the front centre armrest for the A2.
I currently can get it for €93.12 (£61.82). I am confident that this price will be lower if a bulk order is place.
Please let me know your feedback on the price...

I need to find that out, but my impression is that it will be a diy job. If you look where the ash tray is, you can easily pop it out, I think it will probably be mounted down the ash tray slot most probably. When I get home tonight there should be an email waiting for me with the specifics.

I will post the picture on here tonight.
My plan is to purchase 5 armrests which I will sell at a discount, if they sell well, then I will purchase more in batches of 5.
My only concern at the moment is what colours they are available in, hopefully they will respond to me sometime today.

Stu,
I'm very curious, I would be interested. I hope the cloth looks like Audi cloth or maybe like the dashboard plastic. And I hope that when it's mounted it looks like Audi stuff. I saw some generic armrests that looked like a frankenstein contraption :)
So, I'm very curious and I will view the picture tonight !!

I think it looks smart. I have already queried what colours it comes in as my A2 brochure shows several shades for a cloth interior and several for a leather interior.
All I can say is that I hope to have one in my car in time for the social.

The armrest (for now) can be supplied in very good synthetic leather in these colours:
light gray, dark gray, black.

Stu,
It looks vey nice, but I have some more questions...
Where does it fit (probably in the rear ashtray)
Does it involve drilling ?
Doesn't it interfere with the handbrake ?
Can you show a picture from the back ??
Thanks !

I will set up an online reservation form shortly for the armrest. I am receiving 50+ emails per day on the A2 sites so need to stay organised somehow!
Where does it fit (probably in the rear ashtray)?
- Probably in the rear ashtray, I will let you know as I will have my one in a week or so.
Does it involve drilling?
- No
Doesn't it interfere with the handbrake?
- No, it's above the handbrake
Can you show a picture from the back??
- I will once I have fitted mine
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Armrest update: I have taken delivery of the armrest for the A2 today and will fit it to my car tonight.
Assuming that I am happy with the quality and fitting, then I will publish on the A2OC detailed photos as well as pricing/shipping info.
Those of you that are coming to the social and want one, it will not be a problem for me to bring one along for you. Alternatively I should be able to send you one wherever you are within a few days of receipt of an order.
Fingers crossed for tonight...

Stuart,
Perhaps the most important question, how does it sit ?? Does it provide enough support, is it at the same level as the armrest in the door. Does it look native to the rest of the Audi interior ??
Very nice and detailed pictures by the way, you could make a living doing instructions for Ikea !!

Dennis,
The armrest sits up at a slight angle when the handbrake is up but when it is down for normal driving it is 100% horizontal. Using a long piece of wood and a spirit level I have found that it is about 1 centimetre lower than the door armrests but I have not found this to be noticeable when driving - in fact it's a nice change to be able to rest your other arm on something comfortable.
It's also very comfortable for changing gears and does not obstruct the handbrake. I did think at first that it would be awkward to adjust the seat but the flat metal plate that supports the armrest does not get in the way at all.
The actual armrest is like a firm cushion so provides plenty of support without being like resting your arm on a brick!
The interior of my A2 is light grey and so I have found that the light grey coloured synthetic leather armrest blends in perfectly. The design is slightly curved underneath and so looks moderm enough to blend in with the rest of the interior. With the limited colour choice available at the moment (light grey, dark grey & black), it will not blend in so well with other colours of interior but I am trying to persuade the manufacturer to make other colours and I have already scanned in the interior colours from the A2 brochure and sent it to them to review.
Hope that helps...
Stuart.
P.S. Glad the instructions were useful - the manufacturer asked me if he could use them for his own guide!!

Stuart,
Would it be possible to take a picture from the rear seat?
The one you have it's not clear enough, since I would like to see the complete metal plate...
Is it possible to lift the entire armrest? For example if you need to exit to the other front door, the armrest is on the way... :D
Thanks!!

In response to your questions, I've added three more images to the armrest page on the A2OC website.
- Yes the armrest does hinge upwards. The metal plate is literally a mm or two thick and can be seen more clearly in the photos.

Shiner - I don't think that cloth is on the cards.
I don't have a leather interior in my car, but I don't think that the synthetic armrest looks too out of place. Do you?

Stuart, I had to have a look at the pictures again - I was sure that you had a grey leather interior. No I don't think it looks out of place at all. Have you seen a dark grey armrest yet (either a picture or in the flesh) ? I'm not sure whether to go for that or the black (I have a Satelite cloth interior which is described as black but is more like a charcoal grey).
Are you definitely going ahead with the bulk buy because I will definitely but one from you.
Kind regards,
Pete

No I haven't seen the other two shades. I will try to get some photos sent to me by the maufacturer.
Yes I will definitely be going ahead with a bulk buy - hopefully on a regular basis. I'd prefer to do a buy of 10 as it will make the saving even greater, but if not then I'll do an order for 5.

What you have all been waiting for...
The price for the armrest in any of the three synthetic leather colours (light gray is shown in my photos) is: £65.00 (€98.27)
The additional cost for leather is: £12.00 (€18.00)
This does NOT include delivery costs from me to you. I have a load of info on this which I will post on the A2OC tonight or tomorrow also with details on how to order/pay.
I am in the process of getting photos of the other two shade (dark gray & black).

A few people have expressed concern and I am inclined to agree with them - that it is not ideal to drill through the chassis number behind the handbrake, especially as in The Netherlands it is the only place on the car that it is shown.
So I have gone back to the manufacturer to find a better solution. Until then I will NOT be ordering any armrests. Sorry about that, but I think it's for the best.
