I've just purchased a rather unloved 02 plate A2 SE TDI and need to pick up some bits and pieces to start bringing it back to former glory....
Radio - people here know more about which is the correct one to get (maybe someone can let me know which would be the right one to get)
Parcel Shelf - Any ideas - there are a couple on ebay at the moment - are they all generic ?
Space Saver/ FS spare / sealant - I have both the compresser and the pump - (I told the guy selling it that these were non-negotiable and he got them brand new from Audi)
Any one with any of the above either mesage or pref. email me....
Thanks
Paddy

Hi Paddy, The parcel blinds only come in 1 shape so as long as it is for the A2 (part number 8Z0863553) they will fit. However I know that they come in a few different colours- theres a grey and a beige one on ebay at the moment.
How did the previous owner manage to lose the compressor? Seems like a fairly big thing to missplace..

Hi Paddys
Radio - I think SE models built after May 02 were fitted with the Concert 2 (with single slot CD) as standard. The previous model Concert radio had a cassette and non CAN bus wiring and is not directly interchangable. Although similar model radios are fitted in other Audi models i'm pretty sure the fascia plate is a different size so make sure the part number starts with 8Z0 as stated above
Spacesaver etc. - A full size wheel will just fit in the boot but the false floor will rest on the (wider) wheel rather than the side supports. The sealant has a limited shelf life so check before buying a can - even from a dealer. Reports suggest it is tricky to use and useless at sealing most punctures. Spacesaver tyres often come up on e.bay - the last one went fot £170!!!!! In theory you also need a fitting kit to secure it in the boot but most people don't bother.
Cheers Spike

Thanks for the help.... Had it in to Wayside MK yesterday for a health check... (was suprised that all it needed was some new brakes)... Got a quote for a Radio while I was there.... After I got up from the floor I can report....
Chorus 1 (Cassette/Radio) = 635
Chorus 2 (CD/Radio) = 765
Sony MD system (no longer around) = 325
All prices +VAT and fitting
The one thing they did say was that each audi model uses a slightly different variant and that one from an A2 will only fit an A2 etc etc.... Anyone got one going spare ??? PLEASE!!!!

I've got a spare early Chorus radio/tape set. It is pre CAN-bus from a mid-2001 car. You can make me an offer by PM if you're interested. However, if your car is 2002 you'll most likely need the later CAN-bus models.
I bought a later Concert CD player on ebay for just over £200, but then had to buy a weird CAN-bus convertor from a guy in Germany to get it to talk to our pre CAN-bus car - another £100 + £50 for fitting by someone with more idea than me how to make it work. Had a minor glitch - the switched live seems wrong so the controls don't light up, still to be rectified. Otherwise sounds good.
Mind you the Chorus tape player sounded fine too!

Depending on whether I decide to chip in the New Tank with my dealer, and whether he would offer me more or less for having a Blaupunkt stereo in there, you could make me an offer on my Chorus radio/cassette. It's fro, a 2004 (54) reg car and is fully CAN-bus compliant.
More details later on this weekend when I've spoken to the dealer.

I've seen talk about the can-bus around - I know a bit about CAN since I use it at work for something completely unrelated: But I know nothing about the way that this works in the A2. How can you tell whether an A2 does or doesn't have CANBUS ?
That way I can work out whether Skipton or GrayB would be the correct option ?!?
Also is the dealer right in saying that only A2 systems will work in A2's anyone any experience in this ?

This is what I understand, though Skipton would know more than me!
A2's changed to a more comprehensive CAN-bus sometime in 2001 - hence my comments about our car being pre CAN-bus. The CAN-bus provides the interface between the stereo and the car, providing things like the display in the DIS and speed signal for the GALA volume control etc. etc.
This is why we needed a CAN emulator to get our car to talk to a CAN-bus enabled stereo.
To tell if your car has it, the only way I know is to pull the radio out and check the labels on the sockets on the back - a CAN-bus set will have pins labeled 'CAN-L' and 'CAN-R'. I'm sure there would be other ways though.
The dealer is right in as far as the fascia plates on the radios are unique to the A2's. He may also be right from a data point of view as well - I wouldn't like to say.

I've not got access to my parts catalog at the moment, but will post the info later on today (hopefully) as to the uniqueness of A2 audio systems.
As far as CAN bus is concerned, the easy way for you to check your particular setup is to look at the connectors in the dash, where the radio goes and see if you've got a black 20-pin mini-ISO block, with only 2 wires coming off it. If so, you've got CAN and will need a CAN compatible head-unit to work with the car.
Although CAN was gradually introduced in 2001/2002, it was never fully utilized in the A2 - my car is a late 2004 vehicle which has CAN-bus, but it is not used for anything other than internal communication (all external links are via the slow serial method, ie vehicle diagnostics).
So, as I understand you haven't got a head-unit in at the moment, please have a look for this black plug to confirm what kind of stereo you need.

thats great but at the end of the day what I want to do is listen to the radio and play cd's or cassettes or connect my mp3.....
Is it possible to connect any A2 radio and leave out the CAN connections ?

You can fit ANY radio you want, but it won't interface fully with the car and DIS (if fitted). I've got a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB54 in mine, with retro-fitted Bose and a Dension Ipod kit - sounds awesome.

Paddy, all the genuine Audi adio options start with 8Z0 057 and end with the following:
152 - Chorus 2
186 - Concert 2
195 - Symphony 2
Hope that helps!

If you read my "going going gone" thread in general you will see that these items are no longer needed....
