Whitesmart, welcome to the forum.
My guess is that it's integrated in the lock of the trunk, the switch also reports to the infopanel between the gauges that the trunk is open.
Maybe you can try it by opening the trunk and then manually closing the lock.
Good luck !

Hi Whitesmart,
Also, just wanted to say Welcome. Not sure about the answer to your question though. Think Dennis has got it covered.

I've got a question that relates...under what circumstances does the boot/trunk light come on? Mine seems to be fairly inconsistent. Sometime when it's dark outside it comes on, other times now. Strange.

Ah, but Stuart, is it like the fridge-do you get in the boot to make sure the light goes out when the hatch is shut?.
I notice the boot light will dim when the key has been out of the ignition for say 30 seconds. I presume the car does some power down of items after the last time the key is pulled.
But it always comes on when I open the hatch.

the rear lock unit is known to be erratic in the signal it sends to the light switch and door open warning panel - see other forum topic i posted last month and pix on website.
