Has been a little quiet this year on the Social front
and was wondering if anyone is interested in going on a drive
through the very beautiful Cotswolds .........

Please check out this site
http://www.theopenroad.co.uk/static_216.htm

We have two routes to choose from , the two circular routes which are shown on the map
on the site above ,we could combine this drive with a pub lunch or picnic somewhere i have chatted to several A2OC members about this drive and we are looking for some more A2OC members to join us i think it would make an ideal scenic place to drive where there are plenty of places where we could stop on the route to admire the scenery......

Places of interest would be
-------------------------------------------------------------
Bourton-on-the-water ,Birdlip ,Bibury ,Broadway ,Burford
Chrikley hill country park,Chipping Campden,Cirencester,Cheltenham
Duntisbourne Leer
Great Tew, Gloucester Docks, Guiting Power,
Lower Slaughter,Lechlade
Moreton-in-the-marsh
Naunton
Snowshill, Stow-on-the-Wold, Sevenhampton
Tetbury, The Barringtons,Taddington
Winchcombe ,Westonbirt Arboretum

Please let me know if you are interested ........

My usual route to Swindon (major client's office) from the midlands takes me through Moreton - Stowe - Burford - Lechlade.

Burford is a small cotswold town with lots of tourists and what appears to be plenty of tea rooms. There is a reasonable sized car park off to the left as you come over the bridge when entering from the north (is signed)

Lechlade has a huge grass car park on the south side of the Thames and walks either way along the Thames together with boat hire. Fewer refreshment locations but should be great for a photo opportunity - pity we don't have an A2 any more!

Never stopped in Stowe or Moreton other than in Tesco - and IIRC it doesn't have a cafe!

Hey - I just realised that the 9th is the day of the Beaulie autojumble that I always go to with my Dad - so will not be around for this one. I am sorry about this folks - particularly to you Wooly, as I know you put the research in on this one.

I am sure it'll still be a great day for the rest of you though. I'll see if I can find some Audi memorabilia at Beaulie - one day we'll all be going there for our classic A2 spares.

Just thought i would let you ....ALL KNOW .....THAT
A2 Drive is still on September 9th
Please sign up if you are interested , my wife and i have done a pre-drive around the Cotswolds today and we really enjoyed it lots of surprises and gems along the way ..
Just wanted to try and familarize ourselves with some of the route ,we will be taking as we dont want lots of A2's getting lost .....

We where a little dissapointed to see how many people have dropped out
but for those of you that are attending as long as the weather holds out it will be a memorable day for all ........

We started at Cheltenham at Pittsville Pump Room as per instructions for Romantic Road guide but upon looking where people are coming from maybe it would be better if we start from Burford in the Cotswolds as it is a little closer for some people and we dont want people to have to travel the same piece of road twice if you know what i mean ......

The route will be a circular route so if we start from the Car Park in Burford anyone who does not want to do the whole circuit can make there way back home on the return from Cheltenham .......

Also finding your way through Cheltenham can be a little tricky .......
Please if anyone has any further ideas or concerns please PM me or just answer here .....

After todays trip out we are really looking forward to next weekend ......

We can assure you you will not be dissapointed

I Would like to thank everyone who attended the A2 Drive around the Cotswolds i was very close to cancelling this event due to lack of Interest ..

Im so glad that i did'nt as i have made some great new friends its always great to put names to faces on the website ,all day there was plenty to see and lots of things to chat about the whole day was a complete success we only managed to take a few wrong turns but it all added to the fun of the day ......

We where also very lucky to be asked if we would like them to remove the bollards so that we could park the cars infront of the Pittville Pump Rooms in Cheltenham which was an honour as there was a wedding on at the time one couple even insisted on having there picture taken with the A2's in the shot with the Pump rooms in the background LOL !!! This made for a very impressive shot with an amazing backdrop in the picture !!!!!

Cant wait to see all the pics ......

As i have mentioned to the people that attended i will organize another drive around the Cotswolds on the Romantic Roads (route for tommorrow)so we will be looking for more people to attend that one in the future if it is half as good as this event it will be well worth attending .....

Many Thanks All Carl

Wow you lucky person you ,One of the nicest citroen's ever made to look at ,once worked for a guy in Maidenhead and his next door neighbour had one Lovely motor with a great long bonnet must be weird to drive after the A2 ........

Yep, had a really great day out and saw plenty of places I'd probably never have seen otherwise. There's some really pretty villages on this route so anyone else who gets the chance really should come along next time.

My 5yr old son Ollie really enjoyed the drive so much he didn't want to go home, especially after he befriended Wooly's two daughters! He managed to get them to hitch a ride in our car instead of Wooly's - like his style!!

Hats off to Wooly who put a lot of effort into organising this event. The five cars that made it had a great run about but it would be really good to see a few more out next time around. It's quite a bizarre experience when you drive along in your little A2 and heads are turning left right and centre. Seriously, the amount of attention five of us generated driving through places was really something else - just image a convoy of 20...!! Castle Coombe's on the way so, come on, get your diaries and maps out and let's see you all there.

I posted a couple of pics on my gallery page before the September '06 page was added to the social section:
http://www.a2oc.net/gallery/browseimages.php?c=3&userid=2331

So I'm also posting them on the Sept '06 page on the social section along with a few others... (you'll have to wait for them to be approved)... Hope you like them...

Cheers guys, a nice day had by all

I was unsure how the day would turn out but I need not have had any worries.

The weather was good, the company was excellent as was the drive and scenery and the expressions on people's faces when they saw 5 A2s going through their villages was interesting.

The chance to line up the cars at the Pittville Pump Rooms was excellent and we all enjoyed the opportunity to 'show off' our cars.

If you were there you will have enjoyed it if you were not able to be there you missed it, but I look forward to a good day at Castle Coombe.

Regards

Malcolm

Is anyone up for a meet in the Yorkshire Area?

I live in Leeds, but could venture as far as deepest derbyshire or north yorks.

It's long, heavy steering at slow speeds, needs lots of road to slow it down (and to turn it), and is noisy at speed. However, it keeps you alert when driving and brings a smile to people's faces when they see it. It makes you realise how much we take modern cars for granted.

Looking forward to the next social.

I'm really sorry that I missed the Cotswold drive, as I explained to Woolly, I was in Wiltshire but in the Volvo. Also, would you believe I had severe food poisoning on that day, and if left to my wife it would definitely have been a blues and twos jobby, but I decided that it was safer to suffer than go to hospital. Of course if I had attended, someone would have had to get my vehicle back to Chippenham. So being in the Volvo was a blessing in disguise!
Looking forward to CC in October , but it is conditional as those who know me are aware. If Peter drives the laps at the end of the day I will bring my brown trousers this time (well it's not his car is it).
