Hello, I am in the process of getting a donor audi a2 to swap the 90hp 66kw engine into my mk1 caddy. The person who is getting the car for me doesn't seem to beleave that there ever was a 90hp version. He states that 80hp was the max on the a2. I have read up on it and it looks like they were released in October of 2003. What info can I tell him to look for if he runs into a wrecked car to know of it's a 90hp or not? (The 90hp was the only model with an intercooler correct?) Is it in the VIN or is there something specific in the motor bay he can look for?

thanks

The most obvious external difference is nothing to do with engines, but brakes - the 90PS A2 has disc brakes all round, as opposed to the 75PS which has drums at the rear.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi George,
Wrong, All the diesels have an intercooler.
I checked my VIN number (75hp TDi, engine code AMF) and can't see any link between the VIN and engine type.
I think the 90hp TDi badge has a red 'i' so apart from Skipton's note on the rear discs there is not too much to go on
The article referenced on our forum may also help - see link attached
