Can any one tell me where the diagnostic socket is located on the A2? Workshop manual is a bit vague but it looks like it's driver footwell area.

Yup. Driver's footwell - just above the accelerator on an RHD vehicle. It's attached to the trim - so moves about a bit when pushed.
