My searching of the forum gave me this

http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2819&highlight=glow

Unfortunately the topic is closed so I cannot reply to it.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea of the process and cost of replacing a brake light switch on an A2?

To replace the brake light switch involves the removal of the lower dash trim on the drivers side and then the air duct behind that.

There is a 4-pin connector which should be removed from the switch, then twist the switch 90 degrees clockwise and remove it.

Fitting is the reverse of removal (as they say!).

I've had a look through the manuals, but there is no drawing which is clear enough to help. Suffice it to say that the switch is located above the brake pedal (a bit higher than you might expect actually) and slightly to the left of it.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Mike,

I was only going on the missus' description of the fault light.

I have since seen it myself and as well as the flashing glow plug light there is also a constant engine management sign (the one which looks like a sideways engine).

Any ideas? I suppose it is going to have to be hooked up to the VAG-CON

You're not wrong!

Sounds like there is a slightly more involved (but not necessarily serious) problem, other than just a dicky brake light switch.

If you're under warranty, just nip down to your dealers and see what they say. Even if you're not under warranty, get them to check it out anyway and when they tell you the problem, let me know and I can possibly help you from there.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks mate.

One or two issues. The car was bought in the UK and then imported into Ireland where I live.

A2s came with 2 years warranty in Ireland but 3 years in the UK.

The date of first registration was 29th Sep 2003.

So I have to take the car to Audi in Belfast, claim the warranty on the chassis number because the registration number has changed to an Irish one and I have to do all this by the weekend as I am going to the Oktoberfest next week.

Audi are sure it will be fine and will see me on Monday.

Only thing is, the car has been "chipped". Will this show up on the VAG-CON? It has been serviced already and has not shown up....

No, it won't show up, unless they take the engine ECU apart, but that's unlikely!

Mike

The lights have gone off, now that I am within 24 hours of the appointment!

Going to bring it to them anyway to see if they can tell what caused it initially.

One thing I noticed was that even with the ignition off, the brake light still illuminates with the foot on the pedal.

Seems odd.

Still, the car goes out of warranty next week so it will be good to have them hook it up to the VAG-COM to see if there is anything before the warranty expires.
