Hi all

I have been mulling over the idea of paying Audi £180 to fit an iPod cable into my car, or having a go myself and buying the cable for £85.

I don't have an iPod at the moment (just a shuffle) so the total outlay for a new 30GB iPod and cable could be £350, hence I have been 'baulking' on this for a while!

However, I understand that FM transmitters are now legal in the UK and I'm keen to use one at a fraction of the cost, with the benefit being that we can use it in our smart too.

I have had a look and wonder what your collective thoughts are on this sort of product

No wires, no fuss - is there a catch I am missing?

Hi ULP, I've tried one of these and they work- but not brilliantly in my experience. The signal is bad in built up areas as well as lots of noise when you're going through a mobile network area change.

I then went on to have a hard wired system put into the car, and although it eliminated the built up area signal problems, it still suffered the mobile network interference.

I then went the whole hog and bought a new stereo unit (which was only £250.00) and had that fitted. The result? - Brilliant, all probs gone and I can listen to the ipod for miles & miles without any "interruptions".

I am going to have this new unit taken out of my old car and put into the A2 very soon.

HTH,

Phil

Hi
I've got a DLO transpod FM transmitter which is designed specfically for the shuffle.
In my experience it does work pretty well, yes you do sometines get a small amount of interference or static, but not enough to spoil your listening.

I have since changed MP3 players so this is now surplus,if your interested in testing the water you can have it for a £10 inc postage(cost£30new)
It can be tuned along the full FM wavelength ,charges the shuffle while it plays and has line in-out.
Let me know.

Wireless transmitters are susceptible to interference and the sound isn't great.
I've just installed a harmon Kardon Drive and play. (http://www.harmankardon.com/drive-1/default.aspx) This is currently connected via a wired FM transmitter and I have to admit the sound is pretty good and not had any interference with my limited experience so far, I will be changing to a line in adapter though at some point in the future
