Hi. I`m a newbee from Norway. I just sold my 2002 A8 and bought a 2005 90 hp TDI. Yesterday i was cleaning the car and tried to get familiar with it. Then i discovered that there was a bose sub next to the battery, but it was not working. I then found this A2OC on the net. I found some really useful topics about the bose subject. After that i checked in the car and found the following equipment:

- Navi Plus (Hardware RNS 4.2 Software 0140)

- Bose W10 Amplifier (8Z0 035 223 A) (Located on a bracket in passenger floor)

- A loose 2 metre long cable with a connector that fit in the Bose amplifier.

- Bose speakers in the doors

There are no CD changer in the car, just a DIN slot next to the battery. I`m not keen on buying a cd changer. I would like to fit a IPod instead. The Bose amplifier is not connected to anything. At the moment i can play radio in all the speakers exept the sub. It looks to me that there is a small amplifier next to the Bose amplifier. I went to my local Audi dealer today to get some help. They told me that my Navi Plus unit will not work with the bose system because it didn`t say "Bose" when they switched it on. They also told me that it is not possible to integrate a IPod since there is no TV tuner in the car. After reading topics in this forum very in doubt. I think the Audi dealer is wrong.

Do i have what is needed to get a complete Boose system ?

Does my Navi Plus fit to this system ?

Can i use a Dension Ice-link for a Ipod and operate it from this Navi Plus ?

I am sorry about my poor English but i give it a try. Takes to mouch time to look in the dictionary all the time.

Hope that somebody can give me some advice.

Thanks for a very useful forum.

Hello Sof,
Congratulations on upgrading to an A2!!

You have everything needed to run a full Bose system with iPod - the subwoofer is passive, meaning that it is powered by the amp at the front, under your feet.

Check to see if the plug to the sub is there and if so, plug it in and off you go.

The Navi may just need activating with VAG-COM or similar and any factory headunit can take a Dension IceLink, so your dealer is talking rubbish.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Sof, Welcome to A2OC.
I am sorry about my poor English but i give it a try.
Your English is excellent! - better than most English people. Until I read that line at the end of your posting I thought you were an ex-pat living in Norway.

If you look at the Googlemap menu you will see we have at least 2 Norwegian members.

Thanks Mike and Alan. Nice that my english is understandable. I`m just worried to pick a wrong word so that what i write is something else than what i intended to say.

Great news that i have all the stuff for a complete bose system. Thats a nice bonus. I will go for a IPod then.

I`m really surprised about the information that my Audi dealer gave me. I will keep away from them and try to connect the wiring myself, and if necessary ask them to adjust the Navi Plus. I`m a newbee on this but it would be nice if i could get the system playing and then tell the Audi dealer to .....................! I forgot to tell that they also said that the TV tuner that i would need costs 1500 £. Also another 1500 £ for a new Navi Plus unit.

The bose sub is not connected. I have a wire with one plug that fits into the bose amplifier in one end and in the other end there is a plug that i assume fits into the bose sub. All the wires for other speakers etc has been cutted off. The cable is not mounted in the car. Next to the bose amp there is a small box (appx 2"x4"x4") wich are connected and i assume thats the standard amp that i`m using now. The label on the box have been teared off so i can`t read what it is. It has cooling surface so i think it is an amp ?

Since i will have to put a cable from the bose amp back to the bose sub i was wondering if it is possible to buy a new bose sub bass cable with an adapter so that i can take the connector out of the standard amp and plug it in to this new adapter cable ?

Sounds like someone has downgraded the sound system to standard for some bizarre reason!

You will find that buying a connecting cable isn't really an option - I don't know of anywhere that sells such a thing. If you are any good with a soldering iron, it's going to be best to make your own cables and then connect them in to the Bose system.

Basically, what you need to get Bose functioning (leave out the TV for the time being) is a cable from the headunit in the dash to the Bose amp (the big black one) - this cable will also link to the door speakers. The only other cable is a 2-wire connection to the sub in the boot.

To link in a TV is quite easy once you have Bose up and running - and you will find several suppliers who will sell you a connecting cable for this part.

Best of luck to you - I wish I'd found Bose in my car without paying for it!

Cheers,

Mike

Hi.

Thanks for very useful information everybody. Now that you have confirmed that i got all the necessary components i will try to do the wires. I suppose it will take quite some time since i`m not used to this kind of work. I will try to get a wiring diagram i think.

Regards

Sveinung

Har nettopp kjøpt komplett BOSE system til min A2, og til min overraskelse fant jeg noe om opplegg o.l. her på forumet.
Ville bli svært fornøyd hvis du kunne svare på noen sp.mål angående opplegg av ledninger osv.

Mvh.

Looks like your headunit (NaviPlus) needs programming. With Vagcom Bose can be acitvated. On the following page you will find the exact parameters for programming your headunit for the A2 with Bose.

http://www.nav-plus.com/instructions/programming.html

Look at the section "below are the codes". There you can see that the headunit can be programmed for cars with Bose or without Bose.

Most VAG specialist have VAGcom so they can program the headunit for you.

Hope this will help!

Greetings,
Maurice

Maurice
But not if you have the RNS-E installed (retrofitted). There is no programming vor Bose. There you only have to wire one spespiel Pin to ground. (Pin 8 as I remember)
(Ground on this Pin means Bose).
