View Full Version : Cruise Issue

I am having a problem with my cruise control.

It is on the original sales invoice so I presume it is factory fitted.

As I understand it, when cruise is engaged, the front facing switch, when pushed to the left should accelerate the car to a higher speed and letting go should keep the car at that speed. Tapping it once should accelerate the car to the last speed the cruise was set at if cruise is not set.

Recently, this has not been working in this way. I tried the resume button the other night, while cruise was engaged, and it just cut the cruise out completely. I tried it once or twice more on the journey and eventually it worked as it should.

Last night, the resume button was accelerating the car and then when I let go the cruise was cutting out.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? It seems to be an intemittent fault which is popping up in a few different forms.

Thanks,

Smick

There are only 2 possible causes for this - a malfunctioning engine ECU, or dirty/intermittent switch. Scan the car for fault codes (if you can), otherwise, ask a dealer to remedy the fault, if under warranty.

Your description of the functioning of the switch is correct by the way.

Cheers,

Mike

I think it could be the switch, as funnily enough, mine has developed the same problem, (skipton did mine).

I've found when I click to resume cruise to the last set speed (after knocking it off) sometime it doesn't do it, I have to use the pedal or stalk and reset, this works 100% of the time.

It's a bit annoying, but I think I am pointing to the switch and not skipton's handywork, as when I've slide the stalk button to disengage, my stalk seems to have developed another notch that I don't remember being there, kind of... it's gone too far...

Mine is a genuine stalk from VAG parts, but I think the 1 year warranty has gone, or do genuine parts have 2 years?

2 years warranty - see the dealer for a replacement, if needed. Even though it has been retro-fitted, it is still covered by the parts warranty.

If you have a problem, let me know.

very unhappy, as I bought from VAGPARTS, they say their warranty is only 12 months, as the parts are sourced from Europe? only UK sourced parts are covered by 24 months... First & last time I'll be buying from them.

Never heard of that one before - if you have the invoice, it may be worth seeing if you can get it changed. How long ago did I fit it, can't remember now?

Cheers,

Mike

If you need a new one, buy it from a dealer and I'll fit it free of charge if you like.

cheers for the offer skipton, I can't remember when I bought it, will have to look through all my reciepts etc.

I'll call the $tealer to see what the damage is, vagparts quoted £37+vat
They can swivel, thought they would be more helpful, but alas not.

From memory, dealer price for the switch is just shy of £60.

Would a novice like myself have much difficulty in fitting a replacement switch?

I changed the indicator stalk on my Astra before.

Hi Smick,

If you just want to change the stalk, then as long as you follow strict safety precautions for dealing with airbags, you should be fine.

If however you want to change the stalk to add cruise control, it's a different kettle of fish, as you will need to run a new loom into the engine ECU as well as one to the brake pedal switch.

Cheers,

Mike
