A message comes up on my Sat Nav + screen:

"RDS - TMC tuner:
Connection to RDS- TMC tuner is faulty or could not be established"

Does anybody know what this means or worse, implies?

The audio system still works as does the Sat Nav. Information to DIS re directions and what is currently being played on the audio system has been lost.

Hi Mark
The TMC tuner box acts as an interface to relay can bus info from the radio and sat nav unit to the DIS display in the instrument panel. As you probably know, if you have the appropiate sat nav disc (with TMC) it also picks up accident and road closure data from the traffic message channel and recalculates your route to avoid the jams.
I'm not sure about the specific message but it could be anything from a faulty TMC box to a loose plug or broken wire (all pretty obvious stuff)
For info, I bought a TMC box on e.bay for £50 for my sat nav retrofit

Cheers Spike

Thanks, Spike.
I will have to book in at Audi Bradford for a diagnostic and see where that goes, hopefully just a loose wire.

After all this time the connection between the TMC and RDS is sorted!!!

I tried my dealer with a VAG com check. Only shows as no connection but could be a loose wire or the TMC or the head unit and a then by process of elimination. Same with the independant I use now in Skipton although to be fair they tried harder and have done excellent work on other needed jobs.

I trawled the net looking for help and a solution, No one wants to touch factory fit sat nav systems. Came eventually across a very helpful company called OE Electricals in Calne, Wilts who service all VW group ICE products and will look into the RNS-D system (and E ones as well). They were recommended by Blaupunkt themselves who did not want to directly get involved but did help a bit. Useful company if anybody else has problems. They recommended taking the TMC off and sending it to them for checking, if it was'nt that then send the head unit to them and they would forward on to Blaupunkt in Germany for a standard fixed rate repair of £500 and a years warranty. A replacement head unit would be circa £1000 even a recon. Not a keen e-bayer me.

So how did the fix happen? Well last Thursday night I accidently left the mobile phone charger plugged in. Next morning was greeted with a flat battery. Called in Mr. AA who used his jump leads to start the car and did the battery and alternator checks (both sound) and behold the bloomin' Sat nav is working as intended. Full DIS available, would you Adam and Eve it!

You got a flat battery charging your phone overnight! I do this regular and have no drop in battery power.

Yes, it makes no sense. It shouldn't happen. Never had a flat battery before with the A2. The charger did not even havce the phone attached so should not have been on. I wonder if Audi had a comnnection to FIAT or Mercedes with all the trouble the E class has enjoyed with its electrics!
