With the absence of knowing anything about technology I wonder if somebody could help me.

I recently moved 'itunes' from the C 'file' to D 'file' on my computer and in the process I have lost all of my records (only about 120 albums...).

Is there any way I can set itunes & ipod up so that I can put all the music from the ipod back onto itunes? I don't want to connect my ipod up as it will automatically over-wright my music with the one album I now have on itunes (Pondlife - Face to Face; don't ask...).

If the worst comes to the worst, I can live without the music on my computer but ideally would like to be able to load C.d.'s into itunes and then 'send' them to the ipod as a single entity rather than overwrighting automatically.

All help gratefully received :o

Not a definitive answer, but try this:

Move everything back to where it was ans see if iTunes re-recognises all the stuff. Now use the export library option to shift all the music - this way iTunes will remember where you've put stuff.

Cheers,

You can de-synchronise your iPod from iTunes. This way it will not delete everything once you hook it up when there is nothing on there.

Unfortunately, the only way to do this is by hooking it up one last time synched, which will delete everything.

Uninstall itunes so you dont have to worry about it syncing and deleting stuff.
Now download and install Anapod explorer (http://www.softpedia.com/get/IPOD-TOOLS/Multimedia-IPOD-tools/Anapod-Explorer.shtml).
Its free to try, then once its installed connect up your ipod and you should then be able to use Anapod to drag and drop tracks, albums, etc back and forth via windows explorer.

or you can do a similar thing with Winamp (http://www.winamp.com/player/).

Thanks for your help everyone - I discovered my music was still on the computer (in various places...) but itunes wasn't reading it because they'd all converted to windows media files.

Managed to change them all to open as itunes (thankfully through selecting one button) - still they didn't open with itunes unless I clicked on the specifc file.

Cue me just double clicking on 1346 icons to get them to open in itunes :o

I now have a sore wrist - gags on a post card... :)

Personally I always stick to MP3 files for future compatibility. Store them well organised in a folder structure like d:/Music/Artist/Album/song.mp3
You can then use the import folder option on the music folder to import the lot.
Itunes will then play your music and pipe it to your ipod but your MP3 files can then be used by other programs.
Make sure you turn off the option to organise my music in Itunes and either select the option to rip in MP3 within itunes or even better use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip high quality variable bit rate MP3's to your existing folders.
Although it can take a while simply clicking file > import folder in itunes and choosing your music folder will add any new tunes you have added that are in your music folder.
I find this way I'm njot worried about itunes, just backing up my music folder and reimporting is enough to restore my collection
