variable service indicator

Hi all

I've read a couple of threads, but just want to check I have it right...

If a friend of mine services my 1.4TDi (long life service).
Is it possible for the indicator to be reset without VAG COM?

If not, does anyone in/near sheffield have one and would there be a charge.

Cheers guys & happy new year... can I say that on the 2nd??

Make sure he uses the correct spec oil! as for resetting I am pretty sure it's a VAG COM jobbie, speak to skipton01 he is in east manchester and may be willing to assist or know someone who is closer.

Hi BBA
You can reset the indicator without VagCom but only to the fixed service intervals - the procedure is in the owners manual (under 'service indicator' in my 2001 book)
It's worth doing a fault code scan at each service so my recommendation would be to travel to the nearest friendly vagcom owner (probably Skipton) and have the scan and indicator reset done at the same time. The diagnostic kit cost around £250 so most owners charge a small fee for the work to recoup a little of their investment.

Cheers Spike

...just another quickie...

what happens if my friend services the car, and sets the car to fixed service (currently variable) can it be switched back to variable, when I have the time to get to someone with VAG COM?

thinking about it, why is there fixed and variable? what's the point??
