About to buy a A2

Hi!

Glenn from Sweden here :)

I'm about to buy a -91 with Open Sky.
The price is about 6.318 GBP
The price for a -91 A2 WITHOUT Open Sky goes for about 5.892 GBP

The owner never had any problems with the roof leaking, BUT he says the roof doesn't open. This he doesn't mention in the ad.
I'm pretty handy myself so if it's possible I want to try fix this problem myself guessing it's pretty pricey to get it fixed at AUDI.

What would you guys say is a fair price for this car?
I could go for a A2 without Open Sky, but currently I own a Smart Passion with glass roof and have become pretty spoiled with the nice light beaming in from above ;)

You can see the ad here: Sorry, only in swedish (hoping i'm not breaking any violations here)

Hi, and welcome Glenn.

I am not too sure about the roof thing, i am sure a few members here will be able to help you out on that.
It also loooks like the A2 may have xenons? i can see the headlight washers or aliens as they are called, on the front bumper.
I think skipton01 should be able to confirm if this is correct.

By the way Sweden is very nice, been there a few times! :)

Thank you manhattan$ :)

I guess the xenons is a good thing?? Never had any before ;)

Sorry to say I have never been in the UK. I guess it's about time huh?

If you do have xenon headlamps, it will be the first A2 I have ever seen (or heard of) with them.

The car definitely has headlamp washers though, which were an option throughout the life of the model.

I have OpenSky on my car, but to be honest, I rarely open the roof, as it gets very noisy and I have climate control anyway!

Overall, it seems a decent price for the car - if you can get a little knocked off to offset any roof repairs, then great.

Cheers,
Mike

Mike,
I have in the past seen one or two A2's advertised with xenons, but i have never seen one on the road.
I do remember reading an old A2 brochure from a few years back with xenons as an option, but my 2005 brochure has no xenon option.

I am sure they are very rare, as you say.

Xenon headlamps, together with washers were offered as options around 2002 for about 6 months.

When I ordered Tank from the dealer, I asked about xenons, but was told that they were no longer available as Audi UK had never sold an A2 with that option, so it was deleted from the list.

Also, I've never come across the parts in the Audi catalogue.

Cheers,

Mike

I dont think i have the sellers info anymore, Mike.
All i remember is that they went for roughly about £150 - £200 the pair. I was going to bid but i didnt have an A2 then :D

About the Opensky sunroof not working. I bought a car with the same problem and I got the vendor to fix it before buying. This was a wise decision for me as it cost £800 in the end to fix. The work was carried out by a Sunroof specialist and NOT a stealer. In the end they had to change all the parts except for the glass roof. Hope this helps.

The owner cannot show the car until this weekend and then another guy will come look at it. Please cross your fingers the other guy doesn't buy it ;)
If he doesn't I will!

A2 DRS:

How come he had to change ALL the parts and not only the motor?

Hei og velkommen!

The A2 is a great car and I'm sure you'll love it.
Been around -20 Celsius the last week, and I have the open sky too, but no problems what so ever ^^
(Just figured you live up in Norrland and not down in the sissy south, hehe).

I've seen "quite a few" A2's here in Norway with Xenons. Dealers all over the place advertise with "Xenon upgrades". If you get the "automatic elevation adjustment" or whatever it's called, and the rest installed by a garage, it's perfectly legal in Scandinavia.

There is soon to be available a roof repair kit developed by Arvin Meritor the OEM supplier. The glass has to be removed and a small pressing put into postion. It solves the problem of the roof twisting.

Which specialist roof repairer did the vendor use in Hampshire? Could this repair kit have worked, do you think?

I live in Dalarna :)
(in the middle of sweden)

Iv'e been reading other posts in the subject and come across "manual override crank handle".
So it's possible to open and close the roof even if the motor doesn't work? Shouldn't there be a way to bypass the motor then and only use the manual crank? eg. removing the drive pinion or something?

The manual crank handle is there as a safety option, should the power fail - if you try to close or open the roof and it is in any way mis-aligned, you will shatter the glass and destroy the roof.

Cheers,

Mike

Hello y'all :)

I am now an owner of a -01 Audi A2!

I didn't buy the one with Open Sky. I bought a regular one instead.
Some minor scratches and a couple of small dents, but with less owners (3 including dealer), Long life service and 8.000 swedish miles. Got it cheaper too :)
I'm posting a picture or two tomorrow.

I just love it!
However, the engine purrs so quiet it's hard to pull away smoothly. I even had one stall cuz I didn't hear the rev.

I am very dissapointed about one thing though, no remote doorlock/alarm on the keys :(
Only a button with a mini LED flashlight on one of the keys.
The other key don't have any buttons at all.

Is it possible to have remote locking installed? The car has central locking.
