Please PM me with ideas and thoughts which I will update this post with, and post below if you can confirm you are coming.
Ben, is there any chance this could be changed into an 'event' proper please? And while mentioning it, I don't see your name on the list... ;)

Added the event here ready for enrollment:
http://www.a2oc.net/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=11&day=2007-7-6
This is something that you should be able to create from the Calendar section - just make sure you tick the last option to allow enrollment of the event.
And I will be in Spain that week - so won't be able to make it :(

How about a treasure hunt? should be reasonably easy to organise around there, (plenty of clues etc) done in such a way as to make the use of satnav useless of course to even things up!

Hey Chris
not been around much lately but ill defo be up for this .........
May i commend you on organizing everything so far
looks like you have everything in hand well done
partner ........:)
Just like to remind people if anyone wants to enroll for
this event click on the calendar section at the Top of the page
or on the home page down the R/H side of the page.......
At the bottom R/Hside of the page is a box for the events calendar
Change this to the month of July......
There you can see the details for July's camping trip,
this is where you can enroll for the event or any other event that may be on through the year .......
Keep 'em coming!
A quick update - the camp site are more than happy to have us there but for group bookings will need £10 per pitch in advance, to make sure we can all be together. They haven't put any sort of cut-off on this but my thought is we should try and pay-up before the end of April at the latest.
I'm quite happy to take the cheques off people made out to the camp site or we can pay through the club if there is a mechanism to do this - are people comfy giving me cheques for £10 each? If so I'll PM people with my address rather than posting it on here so that my house gets robbed sometime over the weekend!

Hey Chris
No Props mate
let me know your address and i will forward it on .......
Bookings can get fairly hectic in the summer months ,as we found out last year
when we left everything last minute and really struggled to get in anywhere .........
One Question do the pitches come with an electric hook up .......

Top work on the organising Chris, well done :)
No probs paying a deposit so will sort that with Chris shortly, like Skipton I'll be a camping noob (excluding one freezing night on Dartmoor for a 'team building exercise' a few years back!) so any advice on tents to set down on the 'plot' will be much appreciated!
Ian
Great news Robin, Ian, Alex and Carl.
They came back to me today but didn't let me know who to make the cheques payable too. I am out of the country for the next few days but when I return I'll give them a ring to find out what's what.
They did say there was three pubs within easy walking distance which is more important than the triffling matter of finances! They also confirmed that we can have a BBQ too so I'm going to try and get half an oil drum from somewhere, Scout-camp stylie!
Once I have a conclusion I will PM everyone. For those of you coming but still not 'signed' then please do so.
Carl, I don't belive that they have electric but I will check; it would be handy if we're having a monster BBQ in order to keep the meat fresh.

These are really good tents. what ever tent you do buy/hire/borrow make sure you have a few spare pegs and if you've not already done so put it up to check all parts are there and there is nothing wrong with it.

Just a thought
If the site would allow this, is it worth considering opening the BBQ up to members who don't want to camp but would enjoy meeting up with everyone.
I'm sure people would be happy to pay a small fee to the site and contribute to the BBQ
Cheers Spike

Who do you pay?
Sorry one-and-all for the tardiness - I am doing a masters and rapidly approaching the end of the first year which seems to be taking up an unhealthy amount of my time, that and work being incredibly busy at the moment (mind, end of financial year always is).
I will call the camp site tomorrow and get the details of who to make the cheques payable to via PM to those who have put their name up and those who promised to come but haven't yet... I suspect this is much easier than making them payable to me (and probably more secure for the wary!), then if people send them to me I can log them in, so to speak.
Once again, sorry for the tardiness - I can't wait until the 21st May when I hand in a 2000 word assignment and 4000 word research report!
I'll also find out the position on sharing tents and having more than one car - we may need to pay for a pitch even if it's not used.
Thanks for your patience.

Chris, I'm on holiday at the mo but I believe Carl is sorting the pitch out, I'll get a cheque to you upon my return in May for the additional parking. Then I'll settle up with Carl also. Being raped for net access at the mo so it's short and sweet!
Ian, no problems - we only need £10 per pitch - as Carl has paid his then all you'll need to do is settle-up with him on arrival.
Are other members interested in coming, even for a day trip if you have an aversion to canvas?!
Dear All
I have now received all of the cheques and got round to writing the covering letter (it shouldn't be that hard...) so they are in the post tonight - make sure you have cleared funds available :)
As for what to do, I am looking at a Friday afternoon boat trip on Coniston/ Windermere and then Saturday a drive over to the Ravenglass railway for a trip on the little cho-cho followed by:
A) a drive over to Honister slate mine and then past the Western lakes, up to Keswick and back across. Or;
B) straight up the lakes and spend some time in Keswick for a trip to the 'Cars of the Stars' museum
Let me know which you'd prefer.
Sunday morning a nice play on (in) Ullswater for the Pedalo's...
Not 100% sure on the timings yet but planning to have a BBQ on the Saturday evening! Everyone bring their own meat and I'll sort the cooking.
I'll be getting there on the Thursday, which others can do if they want of course although I'm planning to visit my sister who will be 'firing one out of the hole' in a few weeks time, so to speak.

Hi Guys
Sounds like a great trip you have planned for July. We Just had 2 glorious weeks in the Lakes nr Keswick at the beginning of May. The Weather, Walking, Eating, Driving was fantastic - I have no doubt that you will all enjoy.
Here is a link to something that I wanted to do but didn't get round to it...
http://www.kankku.co.uk/as/driving_skills.htm
It's not A2 driving, but they are classic and made of ally!! The company has a nice philosophy on life as well, that should make for a good few hrs out (If you can fit it in!!!)
And don't forget to have a walk on the fells. As you are going to The Stars Cars in Keswick, you could also "do" the Cat Bells, just west of Keswick. It has easy parking, a good, well marked path and super views over Derwent Water and the surrounding area.
Have a great few days, I am sure that you will all enjoy it what ever you get up to :)

I was wondering about the bike too, but what to do with them with nowhere to lock them proper when we are not biking?! Don't want to drive with it locked to the roof the whole weekend!
As to tents just go to Decathlon. They have amazing 3 second tents with no poles you pitch in... 3 seconds flat!
And another thing on convoy driving: drive with your headlamps on. Marks the convoy out for miles ahead to other people...
I have two way radios and my friend Tobi will have one in his A2 and I will have the other... IF I can find them since I just moved house... EVERYTHING is missing! OR I find the things but can't find the chargers! LOL
See you all camping!

Any one know what time we are setting off... or arriving in cumbria?
Hi All
Hoping to put together a basic itinerary over the next few days based around a BBQ on Friday night, trip to the Cars of the Stars museum on Saturday followed by a drive around the lakes and a trip on either the Eskdale railway or Windermere. Sunday morning provides the opportunity for a wander around Ullswater (for those feeling fit).
What I really need are number of people in each group - could you all PM me please ASAP to let me know as it may have some implications.
None of the trips are mandatory of course, it's just a basic itinerary for the weekend. Accordingly, if people want to come for the day, such as Lukas, then please let me know and we can sort this out.
I will be there on Thursday for anyone who wishes to join us a day early

I'm thinking a good place to meet would be at some services on the M6 just north of Birmingham - i.e. where everyone coming from the M5, M1, M40 etc would be able to meet..
Obviously, others can meet earlier along their similar routes, but this is a point many will be passing.. All we'd need is a time to be there for.
Opinions?

I Phoned the Campsite today as i have extra people coming with me
and they said that theres plenty of room next week if anyone would
like to join us in the Lake District .......
So its not to late to book if you are thinking of coming ......;)
Hi All, it's time for the itinerary of what's happening. Naturally, people can choose not to get involved with these things or only do some if that is their preference.
Friday
People will be arriving at different times so the plan would be to have a BBQ for around 8pm - if people want to eat earlier because or later because of kids/ arrival time then not a problem. I have been unable to source a semi oil-drum for this so please bring your own disposable BBQ and of course the food!
Saturday
An early start over to Keswick to the Cars of the Stars museum for their 10am opening - they have kindly offered us the group discount of 10% and therefore this will cost £3.60 per adult and £2.70 per child
Then a drive down past Thirlmere (driving round the back) following the road down to Grasmere where we can stop for some Gingerbread (I'd be a dead man if we didn't!), past Rydall Water, Coniston and then down to Lakeside at the base of Windermere.
You can't visit the lakes without a trip on a Ferry! We'll start at Lakeside, this is likely to be the 3:45 ferry, depending on how long we take to get there, returning for about 5:40.
This return journey is £8 for adults and £5.40 for children (£22.25 for family's which appears to be 2 adults and 2 children)
From Lakeside, we can either take another trip out to a pub if anyone knows one, or a saunter back to the camp site via Kirkstone Pass - I really want to see those remaps! In fact, from memory there is a pub up the top of Kirkstone Pass so lets stop there either to eat or just a drink.
Sunday
An ideal opportunity to have a walk or see some of the Northern Lakes (Loweswater, Crummock Water and Buttermere) before departing in the afternoon.
I hope that doesn't sound to precise for everyone, but I though a basic plan would look useful and we can always play it by ear when we get there.
Please anybody contact me if there is an issue, and the Camp Site have confirmed that a few of us can stay the Thursday night so if you wanted to come up a day early then it wouldn't be a problem.
Cheers
Chris

Sounds great to me Chris , I Think at some time over the weekend people maybe want to go and do there own thing so thats a great program you have made up for the weekend .. Any chance of a long range weather forcast from our resident Metoroligist (Darren C) I Think if we get half this done we will all have a very memorable weekend ......... ;)
Hi Carl
It's a basic plan but people might not be up for doing some of the bits (any of it!)
I forgot to mention, Saturday night is quiz-night with prizes going to the winning team...

Greetings Campers!!
Unfortunately some recent domestic issues will mean that I will regrettably have to pull out of the forthcoming trip.
I had been really looking forward to the break and catching up with some 'old' faces and some 'new' ones too and talking all things 'four rings and aluminium'.
Chris, (ULP), has been masterful at organising what looks like a spledid event and agenda and despite not being able to personally enjoy his efforts; I would like to extend my gratitude to him for his work ethic and what will undoubtedly be a success.
.. Any chance of a long range weather forcast from our resident Metoroligist (Darren C) I Think if we get half this done we will all have a very memorable weekend ......... ;)
Carl,
Couldn't disappoint - though my official title has long since disappeared!!
Thursday 5th - Showers / Max 13'C - Min 8'C
Friday 6th - Showers / Max 14'C - Min 8'C
Saturday 7th - Partly Cloudy / Max 15'C - Min 8'C
Sunday 8th - Scattered Showers / Max 14'C - Min 8'C
... how often are forecasts correct anyway... ;)
All,
I sincerely hope you all have a fantastic time and despite the forlorn weather prediction, I hope it stays dry at the very least. Enjoy!!
Best wishes to all,
Darren & Family

OK, there seems to be a good few people interested in convoying to the campsite. The best way to maximise numbers and convenience for this is to meet somewhere on the M6 once everyone travelling North has joined from M5/M1/M42/M40 etc.
May I propose that we meet in the carpark of Hilton Park motorway services on the M6 Northbound just after the m54 junction and just before the M6 Toll junction.
The location of the services is just under 3 hours from the site, so may I suggest that we meet at the services between 11.30 and 12.00?
If you have any comments on this, or will be joining the convoy please indicate this by posting below.
The location of the services, and a google estimate of the route is shown at the following link:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=stafford+m6+motorway+services&daddr=CA10+2NS&sll=52.646006,-2.05616&sspn=0.011873,0.029182&ie=UTF8&z=7&om=1
For those travelling from further South please feel free to meet up beforehand, but bear in mind that for the sake of making good time we will probably have to make tracks dead on 12 midday.
For those joining the M6/starting their journey further North, it may be a good idea for us to have a stop-off point near the Manchester area where others can meet up with us, therefore feel free to make suggestions. One thing I am keen to avoid though are lots of stop-offs as from experiences I know this can be a nightmare!
Thanks,
Ian

Hi Guys
Just reading your plans for the weekend and thought I’d give a few pub/eating suggestions.
Over at Coniston there is a nice tea room on Yew Tree Farm. This farm was filmed and featured as Beatrix Potter’s home in Miss Potter. They didn’t use her actual home of Hill Top.
Wainrights in Chapel Stile has nice food, reasonably priced and lots of it.
The Queen’s Head in Troutbeck (this is the one near Ambleside not Ullswater) is a very nice pub, food can be a bit dearer but it’s lovely.
The Drunken Duck at Barnsgates nr Hawkshead serves great food and had an extensive menu. It is very quaint inside but can be £17 for dinner.
Lucy’s in Ambleside – she has taken over the place with a deli/tea room with fantastic home made cakes, a Tex Mex across the road and a wine bar.
If you fancy good food in Keswick we can recommend The Pedlar Wholefood shop, they serve freshly prepared vegetarian food. Don’t be put off, it’s really good especially the Three Bean Buritos and the Chilli. Try their hot chocolate, it’s brilliant.
For those of you that walk the Catbells, a detour to Swinside on your way home (it’s very close) is worth it. The Swinside Inn has great staff, service is efficient, the ales are good and usually has a guest on tap. The food is good, big, hot, tasty and they will put anything with anything… if you want mash instead of chips with your steak and ale pie, not a problem. The vegetables are cooked just right and not soggy. They do a great Sunday Roast and the Lamb Henry is fantastic.
To aid parking in the towns the Cumbria Highways County Council have free parking dics. Without one you will get a ticket unless you pay and display elsewhere. These discs allow you to park for an hour or so at roadside parking spaces. They can be picked up in most eateries, shops, etc.
Have a wonderful trip, enjoy the scenery and drive carefully :)

Hi there... I would have loved to do the convoy. But we will be two A2's and two mountain bikes on the one's roof and will only leave London around 11:00... So won't make it to the Hilton for 12:00!!! :-)
See you all late tomorrow afternoon. Drive safe!

We're setting off about 1pm from home, so should get onto the M6 at Preston for about 1.45pm, which'll be about right to meet up with folks setting off from Hilton Park at Midday.
If push comes to shove though, see you all at the site!
Cheers,
Mike
