Hi bba

If you are thinking of buying and towing an aluminium USA Airstream then only the smallest can be used on account of their weight. The picture in the link is of a 17 foot Bambi. There is a 16 foot one which the German web site says is highly in demand - I guess they mean expensive [grin].

The 2 smaller Scotty and Cozy models are do not have the distinctive Airstream bubble shape. As an Art Deco fan I love the shape of these traditional bubble ones and they match the A2 to boot.

In the profile of the 17 footer, 2 weights are given: 900 kg and 1300 Kg - I guess net and gross fully loaded. Perhaps someone who knows German can confirm. The Caravan Club recommends the max tow weight - not too sure if we are talking gross or net - is 85% of the vehicle's kerb weight [see web ref. below for definition] with a 100% max limit, but always below the manufacturer's towing limits if less.
See http://www.practicalcaravan.com/legal/index.html
and http://www.ntta.co.uk/faq/default.htm

Given that the A2 is relatively light then it means the max tow weight it limited. I have yet to work out if a 16 or 17 foot Bambi is allowed. Perhaps I shouldn't as I would be sorely tempted ;-)
