Screwing holder onto a proclip

I have a brodit ipod holder and a proclip mount. And the instructions say to simply screw one into the other. I have tried and failed here. Do I need to drill small lead holes in order to do this?

That's what I've done in the past, then simply screw in some self tapping screws :)
