View Full Version : Middle seat lap belt too big!

I love my Audi A2 but there is one thing that annoys me. The middle lap belt is sized for an adult. At its tightest, it is far too big for a child and if I tie a knot in it, it is then too tight! Is there any alternative or modification to this that any of you may recommend?
Later cars, like mine, have a 3-point inertia-reel lap and diagonal belt (i.e. not a cheese-wire lap belt) with the top section of the belt is attached to the side of the headrest with all the 'gubbins' inside the backrest.
I'm guessing it may be possible to get a replacement backrest with the 3-point belt mechanism within it, with the bottom anchored where the existing lap belt anchors into the seats base and the buckle used as it is now.
It should be an easy DIY replacement jobbie by removing the rear seat. If the methods for attaching the base of the belt are different on the two types of seat it might, might just need a replacement of the seat base too but as this is bench-bench rather than bench-split or vice versa it should be a simple affair
I wouldn't start tying nots in the belt or anything like that as this 'aint safe.
I'm personally not a fan of the cheese-wire lap belts as they can cause incredible amounts of damage to the pelvic area - they should only really be used for securing a suitable child/ baby seat.

Hi Lechat.
If you do get a later type seat, I would like your original!
