Hi ALL

After the fantastic turnout we had for Audi Driver International in 2006 i wish to let you know of the dates for this years event .......

We advertised this event 9 Months early last year and it would seem that that was a very wise decision as it gave people plenty of time to plan ahead .....

We are once again doing some forward planning to see how many people would be interested in attending this year's Audi Driver International event on Saturday October 13th

Once again it will be taking place at Castle Combe race circuit in Wiltshire.
Last year, we beat all expectations and we had very close too 30 A2s present : We're looking to better last year's record and maybe try and get nearer 50 cars ......

You've got 7 months notice. If you look at the Googlemap - Castle Combe is fairly well located to be reachable by most of our members. Those of you coming from further afield can usually find plenty of accomodation locally.

The A20C this year will be aiming to be the biggest and best club at this year's event........I Think a lot of people took notice of us last year and it would be fantastic if we could get a 50 car convoy together .We had some very favourable comments from non A2 members last year ...........

I Think all A20C members took something away with them last year
we all had a great day out so dont miss it this year .The convoy drive to Ben's local after the event was a fun as well , we could continue that idea as it was nice to go for a chat and a pint afterwards .........

Here are some of the suggestions we have had ,

- Mini-marquees, trestle tables and chairs/beanbags
- Games
- VAG-COM diagnostics check
- Merchandise sales
- A2 Photo gallery
- Cruise Control retro fitting (if Skipton is up for it ;) )
- (Any other mods)

It was also suggested that we could attend the Audi Driver International
Dinner and Awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Swindon afterwards
and hopefully pick up the award for Best Club ........LOL :)

If you have any other ideas - post them here.

For further information about Audi Driver International see their web site:

www.audidriverinternational.co.uk (http://www.audidriverinternational.co.uk)

Or ring them on: 01525 750 500

If you are able to attend - please visit the following page and click on the appropriate link at the bottom of the text:

http://www.a2oc.net/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=12&day=2007-10-13&c=1

Let's see if we can beat our previous best attendance record!
This would also be a New Record for A2's Home or Abroad ......

I am quite up for this Carl and in fact was about to post that if any member attending the A2OC Summer Camp Social wanted, I could fit cruise there also and at a special price!

If we are to be in with a shout for best club, we need to be nominated (best get in touch with AD and find out the procedure), then it's up to you lot - our membership - to get voting! As we are a pretty keen bunch, it shouldn't be too hard to get some kind of recognition.

Ang and I have both expressed an interest in going to the dinner this year, so anyone who wants to join us would be most welcome (I think tables of 10 are common).

Cheers,

Mike

Mike will get in touch with AD as i have no idea how these
awards are decided , We have been invited to the awards the last 2 years
but as people are travelling long distance's ......
Was not sure if people would want to attend ,as they maybe wanted to get home .......
I think after the response we had last year i cant see any reason why we could not get a Table uptogether ........

Sent an email to Audi Driver over a week ago to ask how we go about
attending the awards and also we would like to be considered for best club award and Im still waiting for a reply ......

Looks like im going to have to chase them up
perhaps Audi would prefer if we did not attend LOL !!!:)

I Have finally had a reply back from ADi about the awards.......

We have to fill in a
Voting card which is usually put online in August and also it will be in the Audi Driver magazine. We just need to get members to fill it in before the closing date which is usually mid September.

Nearer the time i will put a new post up for this and see if we can get nominated for an award .....:)

Skipton01

Great stuff Carl - I see no reason why we shouldn't get something - in terms of an active forum and membership, I think we are at least the equal of the TTOC, who won awards last year.

Rather than us all just rushing off at the end of the Castle Combe part of the day, I have proposed that we get a table at the award ceremony this year.

If we are nominated for an award, it'd be useful to be there should we win anything, but also, it gives us a chance to socialise in the warmth and also to spread the A2 message to the assembled high and mighty!

I'll set up a second attendance thingy on the calendar, so that those intending to stay for the dinner and awards can register.

Cheers,

Mike

Count me in as confirmed - I have just had my schedule through for the 2nd year of the MSc and it doesn't start until the 29th October.

As for the dinner, I'd love to come along and be part of the team who accept the best club award :) I need to buy a tux rather than hiring them - I have tried ebay but they are shaped for Gorilla's, not adult male humans...

Mike, are there any updates on the awards dinner/nominations procedure etc? It may be worth sending an email out to active members to promote both this and the rally day event coming up - maybe even link in about the A2OC badges - newsletter stylee to drum up awareness :)

The dinner situation isn't clear yet, well, in terms of group discounts anyway.

I've emailed the guys at Autometrix, but no reply yet - I'll chase it up this week.

As for nominations, well, it's just a case of voting really and then wait and see.

I've got my hotel room booked for the Hilton on Saturday night (not bad rate actually - book online for as little as £70 for a double including breakfast - at least you don't need to worry about parking and driving back after the awards and dinner!).

When I know more, I'll post (and bump) this thread.

Good idea about the bulk post - wonder if Ben can arrange this (or if it might be a mis-use of admin status).

Cheers,

I got the club passes today from Audi Driver International and we have a nominal 25 places.

Unless someone desperately needs their pass posting out to them, my intention is to meet up before-hand, as we did last year, at the Castle Combe car park and distributing passes there.

Obviously, if people who are attending ADI and Chatsworth want to collect them at the Rally event, that's fine too.

I will also need to let ADI know firm numbers of attendees by the end of the first week in October.

If you want to attend, PLEASE SIGN UP ON THE CALENDAR PAGE BY THE 3rd OCTOBER.

We had 30 A2s last year and whilst we may not beat that number, let's put on a good show again and prove that we're not a one year wonder!

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Guys, we missed last years staggering 30 car showing. But very well done to all those who made the effort to attend.
We have just registered to attend this year, taking it to 20 cars now. We last attended about 2 years ago I think, possibly 3? Gulp, time really flies doesn't it! We have a different A2 to the one we attended with last time, and are really looking forward to the event.
We'll meet in the car park to collect the pass etc - is there a charge for entry to the circuit or not now? Last time it was free as our car was part of the A2 owners club stand. Please advise.
Cheers!

Hey Ezza
Yes there is a small fee for entry to Castle Combe normally around £5 as in previous years .....
This is a small price to pay, it will be great to see you there, hopefully
with your Help we can beat last years entry and exceed 30 A2's........:)

Skipton01
25-09-2007, 10:07 PM
OK, here's the final info on prices:

I have 25 club passes, which will go to the first 25 cars registered.

These passes only secure parking on the club stand, as opposed to in the public car parks, on the edge of the site.

The passes are free, but entry to Castle Combe circuit itself is £6 per person, regardless of if you have a club pass or not.

HOWEVER:

If you book online in advance, you can secure the special rate of £4.50 per person, which is actually cheaper than last year!

To take advantage of this, go to www.autometrix.co.uk and follow the links to the booking page.

When you've completed the booking, you will be sent your entry ticket in the post, which should ease entry though the gates, which can be slow otherwise.

Any questions, just PM me and I'll do my best to answer them.

If you want a club stand pass, please add yourself to the events calendar list a.s.a.p.

Cheers,

Mike

For those that have a track pass do they need a stand pass?

or can they just park-up with the club when they have registered?

Also

How many do we have for the track session?

Please excuse my memory, but did I read somewhere on the forum that the club stand passes are to be collected from you by meeting in the public car park near the circuit, as per a few years ago when I attended?

Lee

It seems that you need a pass for everything: one for the track sessions, one for entry to the circuit and one for the club stand.

The club stand one is so that they can allocate the right amount of space for each club.

As for numbers taking up the track sessions, I don't know, but at last count there were 3, so if you want an A2-only session, get registered quickly.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi,

I'm happy to print up signs for your cars when you arrive again - this year these will simply contain:

A2OC username
Real first name

Let me know if you want me to list all the gubbins on the car too - however given the state of Mike's Tank - I might be hard pressed to fit it onto 1 sign!

I'll also be bringing VAG-com, table, flyers & banner as per last year. If anyone has a pop-up gazebo that we could borrow - please PM me (min was blown away!).

Any ideas of a time for meeting upto distribute the club passes? Me & the Mrs will have a 170 mile drive that morning so may need a little notice!

I have a light weight 2.4m square open sided gazebo (bit of a grand name for what it is to be honest!) that I can bring along if thats any good, might be a bit small but better than nothing!

Due to a cancellation this weekend, there is now a vacancy for the evening events at Swindon Audi and the Hilton Hotel.

The events kick off with a champagne reception at Swindon Audi, then move to the gala dinner and awards presentations at the Lydiard Fields Hilton Hotel, across the road.

Following the awards, there is a free casino to enjoy.

Cost is £35 and I will need a cheque BEFORE THE END OF THE WEEK.

The attendees do far are:

AlexWharton & partner
Ben & partner
Darren C & partner
Driverforward
Skipton01 & partner

So, there is 1 remaining place to make a table of 10. It is sure to be a great evening, with celebrities for the world of Audi present. Great food, great conversation and hopefully, the first award for the A2OC!!

Please PM me if you want to attend. Fist cheque here gets in.

Hi, What time do we need to meet at the car park in the village on Saturday morning?

For all those who are coming to Castle Combe, the meeting point will be the car park, as usual.

Aim to get there between 8.30-8.45am.

http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=51.498095~-2.224037&style=h&lvl=18&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&encType=1

The above link shows the position of the car park.

Passes will be handed out there for the club stand, however, these do not get you free entry to the circuit - you will still have to pay on the gate. Charges are £6 per person (under 16's are free).

If anyone cannot make it until later, please PM me and I'll mail out the passes to you.

Just been checking out http://www.audidriverinternational.co.uk/ and spotted this beast

Appearing at this year's event!

Among the exhibitors attending Audi Driver International, this year we welcome a new name:

Racetech Ltd from Burnley has recently been appointed the UK distributor for the Gumpert Apollo. Designed by ex-Audi motorsport chief Roland Gumpert, this sensational 220 mph supercar is powered by a twin-turbo 4.2-litre Audi V8 engine developing up to 800 bhp.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b359/gpcracer/apollo3.jpg

looks like where in for a treat theres also a chance to win a passenger ride in an R8 with Richard Attwood driving........Check out the site there are 1 or 2 surprises on here .....

Please excuse my tardiness at keeping up to date with this thread - I have had a really cr*ppy week and just haven't been able to.

Anyway, I've just had confirmation from Autometrix that the A2OC Club Stand will be as per last year, that is the grass strip on the left after the main entrance - i.e. everyone coming into the circuit will have to go past us, which is good for advertising.

To Johann, please come along anyway and if we have any spare club stand passes, we can sort you out, as we'll be right by the entrance.

To all attending the evening function, our table is confirmed, although no 10 for 9 deal was possible, as the bookings were not done "en bloc".

So, I'll see you all at the carpark tomorrow morning. I'm setting off at 5am so should be there for 8.30-ish.

I don't know how many track bookings there have been, but I'm in!

Cheers,

Mike

I wojn't land until mid-morning - a condition of my pass out. OK, if you hang on to my club pass, and I'll head over when I arrive?

Sorry to miss the convoy arrival, but unavoidable.

Really pleased that you can make it!!

A special welcome to all the new faces this year - hope to see you again in the future.

Although numbers were down on last year, the day was still a great success and I'm looking forward to the next one now! Perhaps we can get an all-A2 session next year and put Wooly at the back to see how many places he can gain in 10 minutes.

Firstly I'd like to thank all of those who attended the ADI events this weekend, it was great to see a strong turn out once again incorporating new and familiar faces alike :) We were certainly right up there once again with the size of the A2OC presence at the event. I also want to thank Di for pushing/persuading/coercing me into the track session - it was fantastic having 8 A2's out on track. I'm sure that if people are interested we could arrange more events along those lines. Thanks also go to Alan for donating a gazebo for the event and future club use.

The awards dinner really did help round the day off nicely, and I think I speak for all those who attended it in saying that we'll be back again next year too. Obviously, winning a gold award added the icing on the cake; and on that note, thanks t'other Alan for buying us more champagne to help celebrate the clubs achievement!

Furthermore, the event gave us a good opportunity to discuss all things 'future of A2OC' and I'll be talking more with Ben, Carl, Mike and of course my fellow social secretary Chris about making sure 2008 is a great year for the club and its members.

Next meet(s): Curry and Rolling Road combo towards the end of November or early December.. I'll post up more when I have spoken with Robin and the guys at Stealth.

I look forward to the pics and video!

I would also like to echo the positive comments of everyone who has posted post ADI.

The whole day, from the initial early morning car park meet to the intoxicated stagger to bed around 3am on Sunday morning was a great success and such a memorable experience.

It was a fun day which incorporated the usual banter, A2 chat and a good mix of wide and varied subject matter. A big thanks to all who turned out, (old faces and new), for making such an excellent day and ensuring the A2OC maintained a well respected attendance in keeping with last year. The crowning glory of the day was the gala dinner and of course the award ceremony; in which we picked up a gold award - congratulations to all.

A personal thanks goes to Mike for the memorable experience of the passenger ride in tank during the track session - 'awesome' in more ways than one. Carl's nitrous oxide kit could well be my next mod too... :D

ADI 2008 will be penned into my diary and Di and I will definitely be keen to replicate this year and attend the awards dinner yet again. The evening session really 'completed' the whole experience and it was a pleasure to have been involved.

Well done to all... Here's to next year!!

What a great day out.. Really good to meet everyone and thanks for your help Mike, well appreciated.

The track event, for me was a little scary.. but I did realise that I might moan about my suspension set-up on the road but on the track it was awesome.. I was able to see where it's limitations were and on the curvy bits was able to turn in very hard and sharp and keep straight lines were needed.. but alas I still need to learn how to drive fast with other fast drivers around me and for my first time out I was happy to come in last (but in one piece).

If a set of coil overs will allow me to keep my handling and give me road comfort then this is next on my list..

Those who listen to my stereo set-up, thanks for the nice comments, it makes it all worthwhile, but that extra 110kg is seen by the power of some of the other cars..

On a good note, I filled up with shell v-power diesel on the way there and it was the first time I had used it.. big improvement for me and I saw a steady and quite easily obtainable (but naughty - sat nav not speedo) 119mph on the way home.. which is not bad for a little original 75bhp model.. The improvement in torque between 90mph - 110mph is also impressive and it seems to be the point where most Golf 2.0 seem to lack a reasonable response and get puzzled by what you are driving..

Anyway a fun day, and enjoyable day, a really great day so thanks to all..

Congratulations to the club picking up the gold award. There is no doubt the club's forum is THE place to be for all things A2. When Audi and the dealers don't care, this club does!

Another great day out at ADI, nice to see the new and old faces again! The track session was definitely fun! It is nice to know my standard 1.4 petrol was able to keep up with the (chipped) tdi bunch. I managed a stable distance behind Ian, who was kind of stuck behind the Tank ;-). I was a little worried as I discovered a slow puncture on the rear left tyre late on the day and it is a clockwise track. I'm glad the SP9000 didn't blow into pieces as I don't have track cover and any damages would be on my own expense...

Thanks to EFMAX for the audio demo and sound proofing tips. I'll be ordering those sound deadending sheets soon! And thanks to everyone who made it to the event, it was a great day indeed!

Yes, just to echo everyone else, what a FANTASTIC day it was at ADI.

I, the wife & son really enjoyed it.

Although we didn't take part in the A2 only track session, we did appear twice on the track - the lunchtime parade and the final parade laps, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We still have small amounts of 'rubber marbles' stuck to our tyres even now!! Tried not to get too far onto the marbles, but when you're pushing it and having fun at the wheel.......oh what the heck, eh! Hee Hee!!

Will definitely be there again next year, and if there are other club members up for it, we'd like to attend the evening event too.

Congrats on the very well deserved gold Award - a great 'pat on the back' to all of you guys who devote so much time to running an excellent resourse for all club members. Very well done indeed. You more than deserve it.

S2_Sonic

Hi all,

I have come over from the S2Forum as a bit of an ambassador following some of comments made there between our and your members.

You can see why we are just as surprised at everyone else that we got the communications award after the reception a couple of you got ;)

As for the Audi related club information award - congratulations and well done!

From the S2Forum point of view, it was more that if we were going to get any award, this is the one we were expecting!

I wasn't at the award evening, but i was at ADI (taking part in the concours...), and it was absolutely hilarious to see some of you guys throwing your cars round the track (as much as i could when i wasnt cleaning!) :D

As much as some of the S2Forum members are a bit bitter about the awards, it seems one or two of your a2oc members are a little bitter about the award evening quiz?

If you haven't spent to much time over the S2Forum you wont have seen that there is as much rivalry between the S2 Avant and S2 Coupe as there is disgust at the sight of an S2 badge on an A2.

To most of us, the S2 is a "one of a kind" classic Audi, the likes of which will never be created again. To see what is considered to be a glorified Saxo wearing our, or a modification of our badge, seems like your taking the biscuit a little .

Your proud of yours cars and want to stand out from the more "standard" A2's, or whatever reason you guys and/or girls have come up, im not sure, but i'll leave that up to you.

What does occur to me is that your forum members seem to just as strongly agree that your native car is another one of a kind that audi have given up on (as quoted by someone on a thread on your homepage).

At least you guys can walk into a dealer and be acknowledged that your car exists!

More often than not we get asked if we have the sport version of the A2!!!!

Anyway, my 2 pence.

Just read the S2 forum What a bunch of clowns.

That's a rather sweeping statement don't you think?

And following my light hearted comment above, one which i rather resent.

Not than you can take tips from us about communications (even if we did win the communications award :D), but it seems there are members on your forum similar to ours. (Which brings me nicely to another point about being a fellow Audi internet forum...)

Cheers,

Sonic

Sonic,

Firstly I'm not registered on the S2 forum, and haven't read the comments made by your members and those from here who have responded back. However, what I will say is that people are always free to comment; and we are obviously two very passionate and model focussed clubs - owners of two very unique if not somewhat 'forgotten' models from Audi's recent past.

But, when things degenerate into a slanging match it does neither club any good. You won an award, we won an award - that says something for the quality of both clubs. Making it personal detracts from the achievements of both sites, and trust me will do neither club any good (there were once two UK based SEAT clubs, one self-destructed through the conduct of some of it's members slagging off the other site - which led to it being shunned by the manufacturer and various publications. The end.)

Across the VW group, parts, badges, ideas are traded from forum to forum, model to model, that itself is the spirit of the VAG community. Yes some A2's carry 'S2' badging, mine has 's-line' as do many others; at ADI I saw an RS6 Avant badged as a TDI  either way, it makes no odds - those in the know will instantly know a true S2 from an S2 badged A2, and ditto a TDI from an RS6!

Let's leave things here, let admins delete any posts that are too wide of the mark and get on with appreciating our cars and clubs for what they are, great.

Ian

Hi Sonic,

Thanks for the post. It's good to see an S2 member around these parts. I can see that collectively we share a sense of loyalty to our cars and are quick to defend them - yours over the inappropriate use of S2 badges, and ours over the unfounded prejudice that we consistently sustain from other Audi clubs.

As with a lot of computer-based communication - people's views and opinions can be difficult to judge in electronic form. It's easy to take offence to words on the screen and in e-mails - whereas had these been made in person, I'm sure we would have had a much more light hearted response.

If nothing else, these two threads have given visibility to both clubs in one way or another.

Anyway, enjoy your S2 - we'll be in the same boat as you with regard to the dealers acknowledging our existence before too long.

And as for the friendly awards rivalry - let's both do our level best to improve for next year!

Take it easy,

Ben (A2 factory supplied with no badges at all)

I Have edited thread 132 for inapropriate language i have seen these things get out of hand before
...I DO NOT want this to turn into a slanging match between 2 Clubs ....
Both clubs enjoyed the day and evening awards so lets just leave it at that.....

We obviously both feel very passionatly about are cars and clubs and i dont see why we cant excist
peacefully alongside each other .... END OFF !!!!

Like you said we both got left behind by Audi to pick up the pieces so lets be United in reminding AUDI
That the A2/S2 still excist ......

Thank You .....

Sonic, your comments are very welcome on these pages and although I agree with AelxWhartons clown comment in principal, you are obviously not included as a clown.

Thanks for taking the time (and risking the wrath of Jamo it seems) to post here.

I had all this bullsh1t last year on Tyresmoke, with Shark_90 and others and it saddens me that it's happening again.

My blood was boiliing last night at his unprofessional approach (naming full names, language etc) and I had to say something back, to let him know that his comments were reaching those that he so casually slagged off.

When you are as passionate about a car as I am, then I won't take comments from people like him and Audiman without defending myself.

I have it on very good authority that there was an S2 version of the A2 planned and it was only cancelled as late as mid-2003. The few badges that are knocking about could well be lash-ups of other 'S' badges, but I do know what to look out for and the one I got seems genuine.

All this hatred over a little bit of ally-coated plastic!

Cheers,

Mike

I'll buy you a pint if you're at the dinner next year

As much as some of the S2Forum members are a bit bitter about the awards, it seems one or two of your a2oc members are a little bitter about the award evening quiz?

Hi S2_Sonic and welcome to the A2OC.

I was present at Castle Combe and the ADI Gala dinner award ceremony and can testify that it was a great day all round.

Our A2OC members attended both the day and evening reception with the full pride and enthusiasm for our cars and club; much in the same vain as all others present.

We were thrilled to have picked up an award; (one which our members will testify to as being richly deserved), and we equally applauded and supported as others collected their own titles. There was no resentment or anger from our camp at any point during the evening.

My wife and I were intrigued when Wayside Audi collected the title for "Audi Centre of the year – parts and accessories", (being from this neck of the woods and voting for them myself). My wife attempted to engage in conversation with one of your members after the ceremony, because your club collected the award for them and the chat was merely a friendly gesture. Unfortunately, the person that my wife engaged in conversation with was rather 'cutting to say the least'. A comment was made by your member about "at least we won the quiz" and it was at this point, with humour, that my wife joked about outside assistance. Whether your member was bitter at not winning the information award or not, personally I don't much care. My wife had the grace to treat your club member with the respect that she treats everyone she meets with. Winning an award, winning the quiz, is neither here nor there and I am personally saddened that an event which had so many cherished memories has now erupted into a bitter war of words.

We have every right to be proud of our little car, just as everyone else does; engine power output doesn't feature. The A2 is as much of a future classic as any other and I am proud to own an example, be a member of this excellent forum and be surrounded by kind, caring, like-minded individuals.

I'm going to "set the record straight" here, but this time on your home turf.

It was mentioned on the S2forum that there would probably be more S2 badges present on the A2OC stand than on the S2forum stand, which is when I made my fleeting comment about you and the ribbing that you got last year about your LED Audi badge.

It appears to me, that both last year and this year, you have gone looking around other forums to see if anything had been said. Both times it is you who has registered solely to stick your oar in and I'm afraid I have absolutely no sympathy for you. I'd have thought someone with nearly 2,500 posts on an internet forum would have known how they work by now.

As with many things, it is better to live and let live. If an individual, or a group of individuals think what you're doing is silly and they voice opinions about it, imagine their eyes light up when you register and start posting... talk about walking straight into the lion's den!

I too modify cars. At last year's ADI I had my B6 A4 1.8T quattro Sport. It came from the factory with only 2 options; leather and quattro. Everything else I retrofitted myself, with the only things missing off the car's original option list being PDC and heated seats, which were next on my list. I also fitted many things that weren't even on the options list. Now it appears to me that you have stopped all this LED Audi badge nonsense and you've actually tastefully modified and retrofitted things to your A2 in exactly the same way I did, and many do. Which is a great thing, and I can really appreciate what you've done. It's a labour of love.

As for the S2, that's being stripped out and modified into a fast road/track car, which is a new kind of modification to me.

By posting last year on Tyresmoke, and this year on S2forum, you flung the doors wide open to abuse, and you must have known it. Do you really think everyone would just back down and say sorry under their breath, and scuttle off with their tails between their legs? No, the ribbing's going to just get worse.

And trying to justify the use of an S2 'badge' by saying "For your info, there was a new S2 planned before the manufacturing losses caused the early termination of the A2. It was to have the 1.8T and 6-speed box from the A3, but slightly de-tuned for the A2." isn't going to help your cause at all, is it? There's been an RS3 planned for 5 years ;) If it makes you feel any better a friend of mine purports to have seen that car, an "S2" mule when he was over in Germany.

Now can we just kiss and make up? I'm not a bad bloke, I just take the mickey out of anyone who badges a car up to be something it's not, and even worse, something it could never have been. Hell, I even hate mis-spaced private number plates - what's the point? And surely you knew that the LED badge of last year was going to create a stir of mixed opinions?

Friends?

Hello Shark,

Friends? Certainly, I'm not out to make enemies of other Audi groups and forums. I'm also not out to misrepresent my car as an 'Ur S2', just to differentiate it from the pack, which was the idea behind the LED rings (which make a great interior house light now!).

I have still got LEDs, which your lot will probably take the p1ss out of, but they are fully integrated S6 DRLs that are inside the headlamp shells.

What I have tried to do is to carry on where Audi lost interest, hence retro-fitting ALL the factory options (bar tow hitch) and then more besides (xenon headlamps with auto self-levelling and washers, RNS-E, TT/R8 MFSW, with full voice control and so on).

I don't go looking around other forums just at ADI time, but as any group owner does, I keep an eye on the 'competition' to see where we can improve or change things around a bit. I've been registered on Tyresmoke for a while and only took umbridge at some comments last year, the same with you this year.

I don't mind a bit of gentle ribbing, but when it gets personal (and using my full name) and nasty, then I have to take action. I don't expect folks to back down no, but then don't expect me to take things lying down either. I only had a go at Jamo for inconsistency in his moderation (which he took a dislike to).

I just get sick and tired of all the negativity surrounding the A2 from other groups, the media and even Audi: when so much sh1t is flying around, some of it sticks and from time to time, and we need to get rid of it.

Some facts: the A2 IS a 'proper' Audi, it was made at the same factory as the A8 and used many of the same techniques and has all the same quality.

It was a car ahead of its time and only now is it being fully appreciated by the general public: it's economic to run, is massive on the inside, will not rust and handles like a go-kart. Re-mapping and other performance mods mean that it's no slouch either.

The bonnet isn't sealed and it doesn't rock when the wipers are on. The car wasn't a poor mans Audi either, once a few options were on, the car could easily get to A3/A4/fwd TT prices (mine did!).

Once Allard have worked their magic, I fully expect my A2 to be capable of very good lap times - not up to 'Ur S2' standards, but still rapid.

Thanks for taking the time to come over here and if we can foster closer ties (both clubs represent defuct models now) then the recent 'debate' (he calls it diplomatically) was useful.

Cheers,

Mike

...and handles like a go-kart.

In the past two years I have driven...

A4 2.0TDI SE
A4 2.0TFSI SE
A3 2.0TFSI S-Line Sportback S-Tronic
A3 1.9TDI Special Edition
A4 1.8T S-Line Avant
A4 2.0TDI 170 S-Line Avant
A3 2.0TDI 170 S-Line quattro Sportback
A4 1.9TDI S-Line
A3 2.0TDI Sport Sportback
A3 2.0TDI 170 Sport Sportback

...and I've yet to drive an Audi with steering that compares with the A2, bump-absorbtion that compares with the A2 and nimble handling that compares with the A2. Only in front-end grip do I feel the S-Line cars have the edge.

A few of them have been quicker though :)

Thanks for taking the time to come over here and if we can foster closer ties (both clubs represent defuct models now) then the recent 'debate' (he calls it diplomatically) was useful.

Agree entirely, and with similar comments on the S2 forum from posters their - we need to be forging positive ties with owners from other clubs of 'proper' Audi's especially as we like S-cars so much (well, I do and I'm sure I speak for others too).

Ive just had a read through the thread on S2forum.com and as the Admin/Webmaster/Owner I thought Id come over and post on here. Its the first time ive managed to get onto S2forum since ADI but it does seem the comments got a bit out of hand with comments escalating.

It sounds like some of them have stemed from events after audi driver between a couple of people. As mentioned earlier these arent the views of the entire forum as you will understand.

Id also like to congratulate A2OC on your award too, I am certain that you guys are deserving of such an award.

I do congratulate the S2 Forum on winning their award and hope that we can get along a little better in the future after the dust has settled and the air is clearer.

Cheers,

Mike

Sounds good Jamo, we're always up for getting our tents out at any opportunity (even if some members get stuck in theirs because the zip has frozen-shut :) ) so catching-up at Billing sounds like a great idea

As for the Billing Meet it would certainly be good to get the A2OC involved too, Billing is predominately a social event, BBQ and show n shine. If you guys are intersted in getting involved drop me a pm and we can go from there.

As for the A2, S2 discussion going on it looks like it has settled down now but keep it friendly please guys. I havent driven an A2 but when a guy with an A2 came to one of the S2 pub socials i was amazed at the space inside for such a small car and they are good cars in their own right but in my opinion in different criteria for the S2. Like has been said on the A2OC and here both models are a dying breed compared to modern Audi offerings so lets enjoy both models and work with rather than against eachother.

I'll try get over here later in the week and have a read of some of the sections on your site too. Look forward to seeing you all again at other meets/shows

Thanks for your comments Greg - most welcome and things have settled now (I think).

We drive what we drive because we love what we drive, it's as simple as that!

I'm sure our Social team will be in touch to sort out the Billing meet and that we can get along in the future - The Audi 2 Club!

Hi Darren,

I think there was a bit of confusion with the tables. There was only myself and Claire there representing S2forum. I was in a suit with blue purple stripy tie and collected the award with claire. The S2 table was just a model picked for the table and we were joined by 4 members of TTOC, Neil Birkitt and two other people associated with Audi Driver. The chap that collected the award for wayside audi did it as a stand in since they were unable to attend and wasnt part of S2forum. And for chating to the guy that collected the wayside award was there with his dad and they were both nice blokes to talk to, and im sure no offence was intended.

Hi Greg,

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply.

I did not accompany my wife when she went AWOL, (;)), so to be honest I am not sure exactly who she spoke too. Whoever it was and whether it was intentional or not, that is obviously how it came across to her.

Like I said in my post, I was saddened at the recent events and I had even began to question the whole club scene. Thanks to people like yourself, I have had my faith restored. I am a car nut first and foremost, (though with 7 or 8 Vauxhall's to my name - some might question this... :D), and I am now looking forward once again to future joint club meets and ADI. The same can be said for my better half.

Without wishing to dreg up the past, thanks again for your kind words and lets enjoy Audi's finest.

Buy you a beer at ADI 2008, if not before! :p

Darren

I can ask him next week - I didn't see him taking that many photos during the parade lap - was he out during the track sessions?

Thanks Ben.

I must admit that I don't recall seeing him during the track session, but then again I had my thoughts occupied with the TT tail lights and then with the tail lights of Carl...

He must have captured some worthy shots on the parade lap though...

Every bodys A2 was snapped on the parade lap. Unfortunatly nobody told him we were going out for our track session so he did nt take any photos from the A2 only track session. I have his contact details if anybody would like them. We bought a photo from him he had 2 of us on parade.

Maybe we could get him to post some thumbnail pics up of all A2s then see how many people would like to purchase a photo.
