Does anyone know if these two will work together? The Dension website only lists the Symphony 2 on it's compatibility page.

Thanks

Richard

As far as I know, the Symphony1 doesn't have a cd changer input on the back, which is what the Dension uses. That'll be why it's not listed.

Cheers,

Mike

Thank for the reply, I'm just seeking a little clarification now. My Symphony is one of these:

http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/gallery/showimage.php?i=109&c=12

which I assumed is the Symphony 1 as it was installed in my 2001 A2. However, it does have a CDC button which, according to the manual, controls the CD changer (which I definitely don't have).

This photo:

http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/gallery/showimage.php?i=110&c=12

shows what I assume to be a Symphony 2 (none of these photos actually have a description which is why I'm guessing. This photo is the same as those on Ebay listed as Symphony 2 so I think I'm right.

So, have I got it right? Even though my Symphony is capable of controlling a CD changer is there really no hope of fitting the Dension?

If I am out of luck, what other options have people in my position used?

Thanks for any help.

Richard

Hmmm. Best option would be to try and integrate the Dension.

Whip out the headunit, take a look at the connectors on the back and if there is a 20-pin connector, with all pins present, you can almost certainly use the Dension.

Mike

Hi Richard
For info, my May 2001 SE with Symphony1 was pre wired for the boot mounted CD changer

Cheers Spike

I've ordered a set of four keys so I can try to get the head unit out at the weekend.

I'll probably be back with a photo of the rear if I need any more advice.

Thanks for the help.

Right, I've had the head unit out. Removal was a real pain as it was such a tight fit.

I've taken a couple of photos:

1. Pin connector diagram on head unit

751

2. Connectors on back of head unit

752

3. Serial no. label

753

I'm guessing that the 20 pin connector in the bottom left of the photo is the pre-installed CD changer control, so it's a simple matter of disconnecting this one and plugging in the Dension connector.

Can anyone confirm this before I take the plunge and order the Dension kit?

If it looks possible then I've got to decide where to mount the Ipod, I don't fancy using one of the mounts that fits between the head unit and the fascia as it really is a tight fit already. I think it's a choice between one of the plummer mounts as recommended in another thread or trying to customise a mount in the ashtray so that when the Ipod is removed there's no sign of any modification.

If I use the plummer mount, how easy is it to route the cable to emerge near the gearstick?

Thanks

Richard

If you whip out that 20-pin connector, look to see that the 8 pins for the cd changer are actually there - sometimes they're not, despite what the label says!

If they are, then it should (note should, no guarantees!) be a simple case of plugging the Dension inline with the connector.

Routing the cable under the gear-stick trim is a straight-forward job:
Simply pull up the ring at the base of the gear-stick, then put both thumbs under the trim, fingers on top and jerk it upwards and towards you.

If the car was bought second-hand, this is when you normally find all those parking tickets that have slipped down!

Route the Dension cable around the clips on the bottom of the trim panel and secure with a little tape or bluetak.

Cheers,

Mike

I took the cable out and there is a full set of pins in the head unit so i think I'll risk it.

Thanks for the help, it is much appreciated.

Just to let anyone else who might be considering this know, it works!

Thanks again.
