ok me again and this cubby slot... been thinking of connecting an ipod and running the connector for the ipod down into the cubby slot so i could tuck the ipod in there anyone done this? I know it would require a hole etc. Personally i don't like those mount things so would rather just tuck it away but still be able to get to it if i wanted. Is this a silly idea?... :-)

Hi yes the cubby tray pulls out, the ilink things come with a rubber grommet so just drill the right size hole in the top of the tray, pop the grommet in, feed the cable through, bob's your uncle innit

Thats what i done. Take out the cubby hole at the rear left hand corner drill a 20mm hole feed the cable through the hole then get a 20mm rubber grommit cut x shape in it with stanley knife then stretch it and feed the cable through. Push the grommit in to the drilled hole.
You cant see the grommit when sat in normal poistion you have to get down level with the cubby hole to see it. i left the cable just long enough to come out the cubby hole for connection/disconnection of the ipod. i will post a pic a soon as i find some suitable hosting.

Snap!! :)
Just finished the same job myself!! Installation was fairly straightforward; downside was the need to eat a box of shredded wheat in order to remove the cubby hole in the first place... :(
Well pleased with the result - just wish you didn't have to rely on the playlist selection method though with the Audi option and individual wiring in too. As for the Dension... well I had problems there; a long story, but I suspect that I was sent the incorrect kit - shame!!

yep the cubby hole was really tight it. Out of intrest did yours have bits of carpet on the outside's? On the alpine you can search by song/artist/album or playlist. just waiting for them to let me know how to connect it to this DIS as i cant find the appropriate cable and hellfrauds dont know anything about it.

Alex,
No carpet on the outside of mine, but a sod to remove non the less!!
The alpine kit sounds a tad better than the Audi option, but eh... it works fine. I just need to remember what track number my albums begin at so I can go straight to them; and on what CD playlist they are on of course!!
Nice neat job - drilled mine through the back right hand corner, though the top entry point looks really impressive!!

I have done the same with the Audi kit but left the cubby tray out and will line the inside of the hole with something grippy to stop the iPod moving about - neoprene rubber or something. It looks better without the tray I think.

I did this with my dension link. it works perfect. Just make a hole in the cubby hole

I dont have a pic, but I drilled a hole in the right rear of my 'box - as far as I can see its a tight squeeze anywhere else and the cable might get snagged as you slide the 'box back in.
I attached my Dension cradle to the base of the box with a couple of screws, so now my iPod acts like a cartridge. I can just slide it into the cradle which is completely hidden and even rotate it to the back of the 'box to hide it deeper.
Holds the iPod in place fine, no fumbling about with wires and completely hidden.
Thats sounds a bit confusing so I have whipped up a quick sketch.
