I live in deepest Gloucestershire down potholed country lanes and need more ground clearance. I would like to swap my ebony black Tdi Sport with red leather, sky roof, DIS etc for a similar spec Tdi SE. Any takers?

You should just install Koni FSD shocks, which will work fine with your actual springs and will cope with ease those evil potholes. No need to swap a car for such an issue. :)

...just as I was about to offer my 2002 silver open sky 1.4 TDi 75. :-( I used to live in Gloucester until I moved to Wiltshire...fewer potholes but very rough repairs

yeah don't listen to Herr Schnelletrecker, :D

I am still interested in swapping cars (that is if the year and milage are acceptable)

Hi A2snow
I'll second Robin's and our other club members suggestions and modify your own car. As an alternative to changing the suspension first, you could try a set of 15" or 16" wheels. Schnelletrecker gave some good recommendations on tyre size and rim combinations in his previous posts. If this does not give the desired result then go for the suspension mods for optimum results

Cheers Spike

Thanks Herr Schnelletrecker and all of you for the advice. Havank, my car is a June 2002 registration and has done 51,000 miles. As to fitting 16" or 15" wheels Audi's technical guys tell me that there would be a problem with the brakes that are set up for 17" wheels. Does this make sense?

Well that's actually wrong. You can use rims from 15 to 18" with the stock brake system. Here's info on the most comfortable 15" wheel choice:

So the main reason is the insuffiecient compression damping, not the sport suspension springs themselves. In your case a2snow, the combination of Koni FSD + the recommended 15" wheels will be the best solution. "Swap" your actual 17" wheels for the Konis and you'll gain a completely new riding quality on the streets of Gloucestershire...

Just to show a few high quality 15“ rims being also technically approved for the A2. These are made by OZ and called:

5 Star
Michelangelo
Superturismo GT
Universe

Each of them has the size of 6.5 x 15 ET35 and 5x100 bolt pattern and can be combined with 195/55R15 tyres. No modifications are required to fit them to a SE or a SPORT A2.

Who are 'Audi's technical guys'. Judging by the quality of the advice do they 'moonlight' as clowns at children's parties. Or maybe that is what they are moonlighting as Audi technicians?

Of course the brakes are common across all A2 models (with the obvious exception of discs on the back of the TDI 90.

I have a Sport too and changed to 16" alloys and Sachs Performance Dampers. It is certainly a better ride - but the bottom line is that basically all A2's have a 'crashy' ride to one degree or another - certainly not as good as the Polo/Fabia. You do sacrifice some ride quality for the unique design!
