1.4 TDI VSI oil

Question: Can I only use 506.1 or can I also use the new 507.0 oil? If yes, does it then not matter that the former's specs are 0W-30 and the latter 5W-30? I have a 11/2001 TDi.

I have a 2001 TDi and now use Castrol Edge 5W-30 which meets the new 507.00 spec.
The Audi oil guide is attached and although not crystal clear, I read it as 507.00 superceding 506.01 (which is still ok to use if you have a barrel in the garage)

I have a few litres of 506.1 left (got it off eBay, but it's getting hard to find there)

1.4TDI needs a wee top up of oil as service not due for a few weeks. It currently has Esso 0W-30 fully snyth oil in which meets the 503.00, 506.00 and 506.01 - cant seem to fine this at halfords - could i top it up with Castrol Edge 0W-30 here (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_16 7268_langId_-1_CarSelectorCatalogId__CarSelectorGroupId__varien t__categoryId_77304_crumb_33958-53252_parentcategoryrn_77304) not sure what 503.00, 506.00 etc spec it meets yet. wasnt sure if its ok to mix different makes of oil ? even if they are both 0w-30



when it is serviced will have new 507.00 spec oil in guess ?

It's not ideal, but if you can't find the same make of oil, then as long as you keep specifications the same, you should be OK.

thanks mike i will pop down to nearest esso garage and see if they have any same oil - if not will check the spec of the castrol edge oil and if it meets the same 506.01 spec then will top up with that

Opie - one problem with your site; there are no details for the 55KW 1.4TDI on variable servicing which is probably the bulk of owners on here!
