Hi

I am looking to replace my Audi Chorus head unit for a Sony MEX-BT5000, will I need to buy a converter and a face plate to complete the job? Also will an antenna booster be required, I have read people have had poor radio reception after fitting aftermarket head units in their cars. I have a Audi A2 (X 2000) model if that is any help.

Cheers

Although I'm not familiar with that specific Sony headunit, if it is a standard sized unit, then you will definitely need to get the fascia adapters, as all Audi factory headunits are wider than the normal DIN size.

You will also need a harness adapter and aerial booster too - these can be sourced from most decent specialist car audio retailers (possibly even Halfrauds!).

Radio reception will not be absolutely brilliant, especially on medium wave, but will be perfectly adequate.

Cheers,

Mike

Hiya - I am not sure which adaptors you will need as I presume your headunit havign bluetooth capability will have full mute functionality for telephone and stuff like that?

The unit I had needed specific adaptors for a BOSE equiped car, but mine were sourced through the autoleads site and I hate to say this - halfrauds.

Sorry I cant be of more help.

Hi

I fitted the Sony stereo in my car, works a treat, im really impressed with the quality. The stereo came with a harness but like Mike said you still need to buy a n Audi converter harness as a couple of wires are swapped and therefore your settings on your radio will be lost each time it is switched off (ie. time, radio presets). I also had to purchase a fascia adapter as the original stereo is alot wider than the Sony one and also I had to buy a Aerial Booster so that it picked up all the radio stations, at first without the booster it would not even pick up Radio 1 !!

Ebay for all the items - Fascia Adapter £2.99
Audi Harness Converter - £1.00
Aerial Booster - £6.99

I did look in a Car shop close to where I live and all three of these items together would've set me back close to £60. So clearly shows Ebay can get you value for money.

i bought an alpine full speed ipod head unit and got a face plate kit off ebay for £2. it works fine with the leads that came with the headunit. No connectors or aerial amps

The booster fits in-line between the standard aerial plug and the new headunit.

There is an extra flying lead that must be plugged into the connector block (pins vary by manufacturer) which goes into the back of the headunit, so that it can get power to do the boosting.
