This site is the Font of all A2 knowledge – it’s great, well run, loads of contributions from new and old members, easily the best forum I have come across.

I’ve read the other posts on installing an iPod in the A2 using various bespoke kits like the Denson Icelink, drilling holes and feeding cables etc. So I thought that I’d take that info on board, ignore it and go for the very simple approach.

Luckily the previous owner had a Clarion DXZ848RMC headunit fitted. This Clarion is really good with 53watts x 4, it plays .MP3’s (about 11 albums on 1 cd-r as I’m sure you all know), a musiccatcher hard drive function and Aux inputs (just what I need!).

I removed the head unit from the dash not knowing where to run the cable and what connections I’d find and how to connect to them. There are a few standard phono inputs on the rear. I connected a phono to 3.5mm jack 1m cable to the head unit and now all I needed to do was find a suitable cable run.
I put a torch beam in to the aperture of the stereo and had a look round the dash and where the glove box joins the centre consol there is a nice neat little gap. I fed a stiff 1mm dia wire hook in this gap and fished for my phono cable, hey presto – no drilling required.

Head unit back in, dropped iPod in to the left had cup holder plugged in the cable, selected Aux and selected one of the 6000 songs and Super Sound was all around. Yes I know that this will not charge the iPod in car, but the battery lasts for ages so it’s not a problem.
Here’s a couple of pictures fyi.
(I just realised that it's not clear what the 2 pictures of the glove box are!! They just show in the cable in the top right hand corner where it slips behind the dash.)

Hi Guys

Not really an A2 question, more about the site. On the few occasions that I’ve included a picture in my post, I can only manage a thumbnail as above – whereas everyone else goes full page.

Am I just missing something? How do I go Large?

Regards
