but which oils?

I need to change the oil and filter, what oil should i use, its gonna be a compromise between cost and quality. But which do you guys recommend?

Was gonna use the magnattec from castrol but im not really sure, i have read the lengthy opie oils post, but still don`t really know which brand to use i think audi endorse castrol is this right?

The important thing is to ensure the oil meets the VW spec for your particular engine and if you are on standard or longlife service intervals.

castrol edge has been aprroved by vag and given a rating 507.1 i think. it does say on the bottle its for modern diesil vw/audi cars

Did i mention mine is a petrol, can you get the edge in a petrol version? :confused:

There is a version of Castrol Edge for every petrol and diesel Audi car. The thread shown in my mail above lists the oil spec for the 1.4 petrol engine so you can either look up the various Edge specs on the Halfords web site or call in and check the specs printed on the cans in store.
From memory I think Edge 5W-30 covers the latest petrol and diesel specs for both standard and long life services
