View Full Version : Fitted Sony Cd Player

I attempted to fit a Sony CD player this afternoon into the A2. It would only power up when I bridged the +12V (red cable) power supply to the +12V memory supply (yellow cable). I noticed the A2 wiring loom doesnt have a power supply for the Cd player memory.

However, after I bridged the connections the Cd player was constantly being powered, even with the iginition off. Can someone here suggest a way for me to get switch ignition power and still be able to keep my radio stations in memory?

Many Thanks,

Nat

All it needs now is a picture of a crown with the letters E.R underneath, oh and also a black and white cat in the passenger seat. ;) I kid I kid, tis nice really. Better than my unpainted one.

Get ye down to a motoring shop and order a loom adapter, which will provide the necessary power feeds, without you having to bodge the existing wires.

Halfrauds do a a version for about £15 and you'll need a powered aerial split too.

Cheers,

Mike

Get a multimeter out put it on VDC and with the car switched off try both colours 1 of them shold be between 12 and 14.5v thats your peminant try the other there should be 0V then turn the car on and check again to see that it gets voltage. Did you try red from the car loom to yellow on the stereo loom and yellow car loom to red stereo loom? Im in newport tuesday and wednesday if you need help.

Forgot to say if its a new stereo with iso connector you dont need to purchase a wiring loom and dont need to cut any wires

From the cars wiring loom:
Brown = Ground
Read & white = permanent feed
Red & yellow = ignition

The ignition feed will stay on untill you take the key out of the barrel even if its in the off poistion

Hi guys, many thanks for all your advice. I'm still having a bit of trouble, however.

Did you try red from the car loom to yellow on the stereo loom and yellow car loom to red stereo loom?

I have tried placing the red from car loom to yellow on the stereo loom but has no success the stereo doesnt even power up. I am certain my A2 hasnt got a red and yellow igniton cable on the A2's loom. Thats why I had to bridge the red and yellow cable.

When I fitted the Sony cd player it wouldnt even power up without having the +12V memory (yellow) cable bridged across to the +12V red cable.

Forgot to say if its a new stereo with iso connector you dont need to purchase a wiring loom and dont need to cut any wires

Is this true for a 2002 1.4TDI with the Chorus tape player?

Im going to have another look at the car tomorrow night. But im sure I havent got an ignition feed :confused:

Again, many thanks guys for your help. :)

if you take the connector block which contains the power you should see the red&yellow red&white and the brown just follow them through to the stereo.

do you have a pic of the stereo wiring?

All A2s have ISO comaptibly wiring already You just connect the speaker and power blocks dicthing the other 2 blocks used by the audi headunit. You should only need to buy an adapter if your A2 wiring has been cut, you've got an old stereo or you have bose so need to convert the active wiring.

Hi Alex,

Ive been out to the car tonight and I can confirm that the A2's loom in my car hasnt got a feed from the ignition. It hasnt got that red and yellow cable. The only other cables on the power block connector are:

Brown = Ground
Red = +12V power supply
Grey coulour cable = K-Bus :confused: :confused:
And thats it.

The speaker block connector has four cables only.

The other block has two cables - CAN-H & CAN-L.

Ive also got a red block and thats just got TEL on it.

Not sure what to do next. Theres definitley no ignition feed cable from cars loom going to ignition cable on the Sony CDplayer loom.

Strange!:confused: :eek:

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your reply and suggestions.

I cant find much support or articles on this CAN bus and K BUS thing.

Would you know where I could find a 12V switched ignition feed in the car wiring? Would splicing into the cigarette harness be a possibility?

Kind Regards,

Nat

I'll have a look at the wiring diagrams for you when I get home - there'll probably be one on the climate panel.

Cheers,

Mike

Right-o, get your meter out and look for a black and blue wire on the rear of the climate panel.

It is going into connector 'D', pin 3 and is a 1mm sq wire (i.e. thicker than average around there).

Stick your meter between this wire and any brown wire (earth), such as 'D13' or 'D14'. With the ignition off, there should be zero volts and with the ignition on, there should be 12-14 volts.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Apologies for the delay. Thank you for looking at the wiring diagram for me. Still havent got around to fitting the Cd player. Will get the other half to take a look sometime this week.

Just a thought!
You might find the ignition feed will go off after an hour!

I can switch my radio / CD on for that time before it switched off with key out, radio etc turns off afer the hour period
