Self-levelling Headlamp System

Well, apart from the tie rods from the wishbones to the sensors, the headlamp automatic levelling system is in Tank and waiting to be set for the first time.

I would have finished the headlamp washers too today, except that when I'd gotten the bumper off, I found out that they'd put the 1.2TDi fluid reservoir on instead of the normal one!

Not a happy bunny I can tell you, but at least the new bottle isn't expensive.

I have decided to fit A3 surface mounted washer jets, as they're heated and don't require a new bumper!

At the moment, the xenons are re-based tubes, with proper Bosch ignitors and ballasts, but I'll be fitting a set of RS4 bi-xenon projectors in the near future, which are factory items, with Osram Xenarc burners (4300K).

Is you upgrade to headlamp washers, you allways have to change the fluid reservoir! This is normal that you only have a smaller one and need the big one including a second pump-motor. (if I understood right, what you mean).
As I know, this is the upgrade you need to do whe installing FIS (=BC) with fluid level instrument in the cockpit (BC)

The ones in the link are different to mine - I'll get the part number and photos later on, when I get home.

Erstens - if you look at the PR numbers for the A2, the smaller tank should only be fitted to the 1.2TDi, the larger 4.2 litre one is fitted in all other cases, with a blanking plug for the second outlet.

It matters not though, I've picked up the new bottle today and so fitting should be complete by next week, weather depending!

base is the glof IV conversion from Hella.
There's no part of the original Headlamp being used: these are completely from scratch. The medium-term idea is to be able to replicate them.

The headlamp washers aren't fitted yet and if someone's got some that are heated, i'd rather have those as we have minor issues with -20 here.

I'll do some more photos later, as the mask now has two layers of filler on it and is beginning to look reasonable.

Ok the washers are part number 8L0 955 988 and attached are a couple of photos.

The positioning looks a little odd, but it is actually right in the place it should be, or the place that the factory jets are.

No - that's the old bumper, with holes cut in for the washer jets.

One of the reasons I decided to go this way was that the bumper would have been about £250 including paint and then the new inserts, plates and pressure cylinders would come to another £200 or so, making the conversion ridiculously expensive.

As it is, the heated jets are £12 each, the holes are free (!) and the new relay needed was £20. Add on a little for wiring and a second pump, you can see that this way is a LOT cheaper - and the jets are heated too!

All I need to do now is fit the new reservoir and piping and see what the pressure is like (it should be amazing, as the pump puts out a huge pressure - half of which is normally used just to lift the nozzles out of the bumper on the standard system).
