Last Thursday, I turned on my ignition to be greeted with the 'Service within 1000 miles' message. I decided to reset my trip computer, for reasons unknown, other than 'it seemed a good idea'.

By Saturday, I had done 52 miles, and it had suddenly jumped down to 'Service within 800 miles'...was someone driving my car at night or what?!?!?!

Monday, I went to a friend's wedding about a 65 mile round trip, then yesterday standard commute to work 12 mile round trip.

This morning I was greeted with 'Service within 400 miles'.

Now, you don't need to be a genius to figure out something is wrong here. I had done little over 180 miles in four days, yet the service message has dropped 600 miles!!!!!!!!

Has anyone else had this issue, or is it just my car being silly?

Cheers,
RC

They all do that sir!!! just as the miles to empty countdown, my A4 currently says 315 to go, it will slowly drop to about 100 then plumet like a stone, Audi's idea of being a bit pessimistic so you don't run out of fuel or go too far over your service time, mine is on the fixed servicing having 144k on the clock I think it's best doing that and the servicing 'request' messages did exactly the same and I can't influence the period with my driving style!!

Mine was the same - it gave a regular drop of 300 miles for every 300-ish done until I got to 1300 miles which was the point it started reminding me. Then every journey seemed to be met with a drop of 100-200 miles! I had to bring the service forward due to being fearful of how quickly it would drop. From memory I drove about 200 miles from the 'service due in 1300 miles' counter and when I took it in there were only 400 miles left!

Still, at least it looked like I might go for 2 years between the last service and next one now it is all based on my driving rather than the first 3000 miles being a demo!
