View Full Version : Door Clunk

There is obviously some form of lubrication error on my driver's side door. When ever I open and close it, I get three loud clunks.

I thought it may be the shaped, unpainted bar round about level with the top of the gear knob but that is more or less as free of lube or grease as the one on the other side.

Anybody any ideas? And if it is what I think it is, can anyone advise on the type of grease required and its application.

Thanks a million in advance.

Hi Smick
I use white teflon cycle grease on mine but its not critical what you put on. Try the lube but it's likely to be something else wrong - see links

Having spoken to the workshop manager at my local Audi bodyshop (one of the few aluminium specialist ones), he told me that the parting of the door stays was a common problem.

It's not tricky to fix yourself and you can make the joint better than it was from new as well, but it's a pain that you should have to.
