i recently got toold from audi that my engine management system light was on because of a build up of carbon. they cleaned it all out and it seems fine but i'm worried its just going to keep on doing it. They mentioned an EGR valve (whatever one of those is?!) and says it might need a new one and its going to be costly!!!!! (nothing new about being costly with this damn car!!) any ideas on how much im looking at? having had the car about 6 months i've spent well over £1500 at audi :mad::mad:

EGR valves are small valves that feed some of the exhaust gasses back in to the combustion chanber at certain engine working conditions, which helps with emissions.
As they have exhaust gasses passing through them all the time, a build up of carbon and general rubbish is inevitable. This can be minimised by using a fuel additive and the valve can actually be rmoved and cleaned out.
It can also be bypassed, as it's not really needed and I believe Driveforward has done this. It can also be altered with Vag-com so that it doesn't operate as much.
Cheers,
Mike
