As promised, this is the thread for pictures!

Firstly, for all of those long-time Audi fans out there here is the ultimate evolution of quattro; no, it's not the poxy Q7 tank, but the Quattro Sport SWB. If you like the look of it, you need to hear it - you can't go wrong with 5-pots, a much underrated layout:

In performance terms, the Quattro always struggled against the smaller cars once they developed 4wd. I have no idea what boost this Metro 6R4 was running (they produced anything from 250bhp to about 400bhp and more in Rallycross format) but it was clearly pumping out enough to make it the quickest car out there by a country-mile, WRC Lancer Evo included, although it didn't get close to the Lancer for grip. The noise and whole comedy of the beast was amazing, and a motoring-fact that nobody else seemed to know there was that the 6R4 donated it's 3.0 V6 engine to the Jag XJ220 supercar, which was originally to get a 6.0 V12.

Just where the rear seats normally are on a metro, the 6R4 copies the Renault 5 GT2 in terms of format. These engines were quite unreliable in their day although this one was red-lined at 9000rpm!

Some of you may remember Richard Hammonds 'I am a driving god' statement whilst at the wheel of some unearthly Land Rover thing; that car was the Bowler Wildcat which has now been replaced by this, the Bowler Nemesis. Essentially, despite looking like a Range Rover Sport that's been down the gym, it's a whole new car although the basis 4.2 Supercharged or 4.4 N/A engines are from the Rangie - this one was supposedly running 500bhp with the supercharged engine and it was damned noisy, if not quite as quick as the smaller cars. Another car that attracts comedy value!

There were enough Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts to fill the Sahara Desert, and they all looked incredibly impressive if not overly quick (apart from a few 'trick' ones). These 911's competed against the Escorts; I'm not a 911 fan (the engine is in the wrong place and it was too-heavily related to Hitler's Beetle for history to be anything other than unkind) but they do sound good and look impressive, back-end out; I like this one as it's the best photo I took all weekend (in my opinion)

Just for Wooly - a Lancia Stratos (original); love these too, and they do look incredible

A Mitsubishi Evo. These things looked great, and a few impromptu doghnuts were well received. Unlike the classic stuff that was generally looked-after, these things got the full-pasting you expect of a WRC car

The A2's battery can be run flat if you keep a fridge on for 20-odd hours and only drive 5 miles in that time. I'm saying nothing else on the subject...

Ideal camping weather...

Was a little dissapointed not to see a Lancia O37 Monte Carlo in the Martini colours but all the Lancia Stratos made up for it ......

Hi Bob,

You need to have an online photo-storing account, such as Photobucket and then you just post a link to the photo in your post to the forum.

Cheers,

Mike

Photobucket is a lot easier to set up than it sounds - give it a go.

As for the manuals, no rush from my end.

Cheers,

Mike

the 6r4 in the pics is a ex ayrton senna car if iam not mistaken.
to explain he did alot of tests on it and was given one by British leyland, this car was shipped from Brazil with out a engine and was only white n blue.
i will have to find the pics of it all de-stickered.

Hi Guys,

A post at the start of this thread wondered about the "boost" the 6R4 was running; due to the cramped space, these were all non-turbo, making their power from high revs. This was the source of most of their reliability problems.

We swappesd an ex 308GT4 Ferrari V8 into the last one I helped with, making an 8R2, I suppose!

Crikey. That must have been pretty damn fast ???

Hi Jimbobaroo,

It was set up for forest rallying, so was spectacularly quick, rather then fast. It was not particularly sucessful and was sold on. Last I heard, it was wearing a Hewland 'box and a hot Pinto, and may have been going rally-crossing?
