I have just purchased an A2 tdi 2001 second hand a juddering sound that comes through the car has got worst pointing to the driveshaft’s. I have contacted Audi in Slough who say “they have never heard of any driveshaft problems with A2”

Can anyone confirm this and say what I can do other than get the driveshaft’s replaced ( £250 each plus labour )

Other than surface defects (light rusting and flaking) I've not heard of driveshaft problems causing the symptoms you mention. Boots are known to harden and split early, so perhaps this has happened to yours and was left untreated.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers,

Mike

Could it be another Dual Mass Flywheel problem ?????

We had a boot go just weeks from the car being new. It was probably split when it left the factory. It was changed under warranty but they left the bloody mess that it made.

How does the juddering manifest itself? - could be brake discs - they are known for warping.

Does it happen on the over run - i.e slowing down with you foot off the accelerator and using the engine as a brake. Just at the point where the engine labours do you get it then?

If so my 2001 tdi does this and has done for the last 50k/4 years. Never got to the bottom of it but never casued a problem otherwise. Changing the drop links (common fault) had no effect.

Hi Jimbobaroo

I'm almost certain that its only 90 TDI's which have the dual mass flywheel. Jblackhu's 2001 car will be a 75 TDI and won't be affected.
