Hmmm... I've seen another picture of the A2 5 door somewhere. It was Crystal Blue with Open Sky and looked like it might have rear cupholders, a luggage net and a floppy wiper.

Ah... you meant the A1 5 door? Hmmm.. They're a bit rarer ;)

Got to say that no design in the last 5 years or so has inspired me - even the R8 has its faults (too long at the back, giving it an uneven, back-heavy appearance).

The sooner Audi get a grip on their design philosophy, the better. I think that they're heading for a fall if they're not careful, due to lack-lustre design and expanding the model range too quickly, without having the back-up for after-sales (we know all about that now, don't we!).

Cheers,

Mike

Boring compared to the A2, which was designed 9(?) years ago. Some inspiration urgently needed in the Audi design dept.

For me the front overhang is too big,the contrasting silver pillar looks sh*te and the overall profile is like a shrunken A3.
Its not really innovative anywhere based on the exterior styling.

Dullsville, man! :(

No originality / practicality.

Waste of length front & rear!

Where is the raspberry smiley! :D

Nige.

Compared to:

There's really no competition.

Looking at where Schreyer is now putting his skills to good use, maybe the time has come to give Kia a try:

All indications are that the 5 door WILL be called A2. So hence me saying A2 5 door! :-)

I agree with Mike though: this thing just looks humdrum and like a shrunken A3. Where is the daring design of old? The buy-me-now looks and desirability. Nowhere to be seen in my view. The new Fiat 500 has this in spades and will sell like hotcakes. The MINI sells by the truckload because of this too, despite that atrocious interior and lack of space... I read in a lot of places that Audi was still unsure about the design of this A1 and said before the launch of this that it might NOT be the final A1. I think they have realised that people won't like it much and hence they are hatching something better. Lets hope so.

What a wasted opportunity!

The market does not need another petrol hybrid!

Even the USA are now selling low sulphur diesel and Bio fuel is booming over there.

Peak oil is a major issue with Qatar airways now looking into natural gas to oil conversion to fuel their airbus jets because they know something most are afraid to point out.

Branson and Air New Zealand are looking into algae produceed bio jet fuel / diesel.

Corn and ethanol is a false hope - very poor effficiency, stainless steel fuel lines and tankers, and massive impact on food prices.....

Come on Audi do us a favour and give us at least 3l/100km (98mpg) like the A2 1.2 could do in 1999.
