Hi,
2002 1.4se with 25k.
My brakes are sqealing quite badly.
Checked the front pads - they're the originals but are fine.
Rear are drums (which is a little surprising!) - perhaps anyone has had expereince with the back brakes and this problem?
Any ideas?

HI im333
The rear drums rarely give problems and won't squeel umless the linings are down to the rivets. It's most likely to be the front brakes at fault. Even if the pads have plenty of 'meat' left then a stripdown and clean, to ensure everything is free, can work wonders. A film of Copperslip on the caliper/ pad contact points also helps but make sure none gets on the discs or pad friction material.

Hi im333,
I have had a noise similar to what you describe (2001 1.4 TDi 75). I was told that it was caused by a build up of brake dust. I presume that the drums were cleaned out when the car was serviced, as noise went away and didn't return for a long, long time...
John.
