View Full Version : 2008 A2OC Camping Social - a special one!
Morning Campers!
Well, after 2007's successful camping social by Ullswater in the Lake District, I have pleasure in confirming the first of 2008's camping socials.
This year the camping social will take place between the 5th and 8th of June (Thursday to Sunday) at Greenhills Camping Park in the Peak District.
http://www.greenhillsholidaypark.co.uk/index.html
This event will be combined with the Chatsworth House Rally Show which has moved from the late September slot to this weekend in June.
I have provisionally reserved 15 pitches at the camp site and the club has been invited back to the Rally Show, so we will be amongst the car clubs again. If numbers go up (or down) then I can ammend the booking but I would be grateful if all attendees could identify themselves on the Event-Planner.
http://www.a2oc.net/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=18&day=2008-6-5
At this point in time I am not asking for deposits but these will need to be provided for both the Rally Show and Camping, more details of which will follow.
Likewise, the Rally Show is Saturday and Sunday so the idea of booking from Thursday evening is that we can do something different on the Friday - I'm guessing it will involve a scenic drive and a minature railway with a pub to round the day off! However, I am well-aware some people may only be able to make it for the weekend or even one-day; no fear, there are no 'rules' as such, it's a club-event that allows everyone to get involved in whatever way they want; if people want to do something else over the weekend then that's fine!
Last year we had an excellent turn-out for both events; lets make 2008 even better!
Ian (driveforward) and I are working on this one together, so please feel free to contact either of us for information (he's doing the rally, I'm doing the camping, Friday trip and entertainments!).
With this timing, there will be another camping trip in early September - keep your eyes peeled!
I can't wait - can you? :)

I like the idea of driving around just like at the lakes.. so we can see different villages.
Mind you I didn't like the showers in that camp site. I had the hold the button for it to keep on :D
I may just make a suggestion to improve them for when I arrive next time

NNNnnnnooooooooo!!!!!!!!!1
That field we were in before was the most sloping site ever. Might have to investigate a self-levelling device for the campbed to avoid waking up at the bottom of the tent.

A tent that fits in a single timezone may help ;)
The further your tent is away from the bog-block the more chance it'll be on a (slight) slope - the early campers will get the best spots!
Richard, get yourself on the attendee's list, and you Mike and William Woolard...

Well good news ... for me :)
And your constructive suggestions are always welcome, with regard to the
showers we are just in the process of having the toilet and shower block
refurbished ready for the 2008 season.
Many years ago we used to have manual showers but most of the time they were
left running especially when children were using them so we then went over
to using push button showers which I must say are very economic and user
friendly, but I will certainly look in to the timing process to let them
stay on longer.
Many thanks for your comments and hoping you will be pleased with our new
shower block on your return to us soon.
Kind Regards
James Green

The village next to Chatsworth Ho has a superb foodie pub. Also the home to J Fearne who is a renowned Landrover tuner for any off roaders out there. In the early days of diesel tuning I took my XM estate ( yes, really!) to be set up on their rolling road.
Will probably just come for the day with my dog, don't do camping!

Anybody from Sheffield or surrounding going to be going down?
Im considering this one depending on which weekend in June, as I'm getting married in June!
An update (of sorts).
Friday 6th June:
Marie and I will be at the camp-site after work on Thursday, so if anyone fancies joining us Thursday evening they would be most welcome.
I am concocting a decent driving route through the Peak District with a stop-off at an attraction in the afternoon. Of course not everyone can make the Friday but those who can will, of course, be most welcome. I suggest we start with a light-lunch somewhere, leaving the camp site at about midday to allow those arriving that day sufficient time to swear at their tent!
Friday evening we'll have another BBQ, probably start at about 7 and carry on until well after the late arrivers get there - Johann and Tobi will need help putting their tents up!
Saturday 7th June & Sunday 8th June:
The Rally Show. I suggest we book for the whole weekend although people may wish to only go on the Saturday and then take a small drive around Derbyshire for the Sunday - I am open to suggestions.
Saturday evening I suggest a take-out, as we can have it delivered to the site, followed by an expertly produced (no giggling at the back) pub quiz, and then a few beers in the on-site pub.
Rally Show Tickets
I am awaiting confirmation of when we will need to pay for the Rally Show. The options will be:
Adults:
Whole Weekend £23.50ea
Saturday £12.50ea
Sunday £16.50ea
Children 9-16:
Whole Weekend £(Not yet advised)
Saturday £Free
Sunday £5.00ea
Children Under 9:
Free
My intention is to do the same as Carl did last year, that is to say ask people to make cheque's out to the organisers but send them to me so that I can collate them and send them on as one group.
I will then get all of the passes to hand-out at the camp-site - for anyone not camping can I ask they come to the camp site on the morning of the day they will be attending so that I can hand-over the passes, or I will send them in the post.
Camping
We will be in the field together again (subject to those who want an electrical hook-up), but hopefully a nicer spot as we have booked well in advance. Provisionally there are ten spaces but we can have more.
In a similar fashion, I will ask for a cheque made payable in the correct amount to the camp site but to be sent to me - I will then forward them on. If like last year this will be a deposit amount
The charges are:
Tent + 2 people £10.50 per night
Tent + 2 people + electric hook-up £14.00 per night
Extra Adults £5.00 per night
Children (4-15) £1.50 per night
Children (under 4) Free
Extra Car £2.00 per night
Once I have more details on costs and dates for sending the cheques in, I will PM those on the attendee's list with my address.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON THE ATTENDEE'S LIST IF YOU ARE COMING!
I will assume all attendee's are coming Friday evening through to Sunday - PM me if this is not the case.
I will be updating further in the next week, specifically if there are any discounts that have been secured, so please keep your eyes peeled!

Well good news is that I / we should be defo coming because the exam timetable doesn't clash with the break away, which I thought it might be so may have only been possible for me to come on the weekend.
Made a last minute decision and off to america for one whole year now august time! so will be saying bye bye to the A2 for one year!! The second day on sunday somewhere different sounds good, instead of two days at the rally. Not sure what everyone elses thinks but I saw it last year, one day was good - somewhere else would be better for me.

Having read a few posts im thinking maybe Saturday on the display then Sunday
taking in the scenery .....As the Suzuki Owners club did last year ...
Also makes it easier for organizing the payment for the event .....
As u dont have to worry about what day people are going to be there ....
It's also cheaper if we arrange to go on the Saturday ...
Any Ideas on this .....
Dear All
I have been in touch with the organisers and they have confirmed that all tickets will need to be paid for by May!!! Unfortunately, due to other committments I am unable to take the cheques over the next weeks but Carl (Wooly) has kindly offered to take the cheques and make the bookings. There is a small discount on the price but I am not yet clear how much this; I expect to be advised tomorrow.
I will then PM all people attending (you need to put yourself on the attendee's list!) with Carl's postal details and accurate costs. Apologies for the lateness in this, but you'll need to turn your cheques around very quickly.
Unlike last year we will make the booking only for the Saturday as this seems to be the general preference, and I'll organise a little something for Sunday!
Once the Rally Show stuff has been paid for, I will ask you to send me cheques for the camp site. Details to follow in a week-or-so.
I would ask those attending to keep an eye on here and their Private Messages; if you will have any problems over the next week-or so then please PM me and I'll sort something out with you.
Please also PM me if you wish to attend the day only but are not camping.
Cheers

The campsite do accept pets - put your name down on the attendee's list and contact Wooly regarding the tickets for the show.
I'll post details for paying the camp site on the 4th May so as not to confuse the camping and rally-show!

ULP will be sorting the deposit out for the camping
it was just easier for me because of the time factor
to take the payment for the rallyday ....
Camping Update
Greenhills have kindly waivered the deposit on camping on the basis we were there last year and, I get the impression, working out which person is from which club is a pain for them.
Accordingly, it will be correct money on the day of arrival at the site - please make yourself familiar with the fees.
I will now PM all those on the attendee's list with my contact details - please PM me back with details of which nights you will be staying so that I can give Greenhills an idea, and ensure we are all 'booked' together. When you PM me back could you also include the name of the individual your booking will be in, and also a contact number.
The charges are:
Tent + 2 people £10.50 per night
Tent + 2 people + electric hook-up £14.00 per night
Extra Adults £5.00 per night
Children (4-15) £1.50 per night
Children (under 4) Free
Extra Car £2.00 per night

I Had to laugh at your comment on Richard putting his tent up as i can remember you and Marie trying to erect your tent at The Lake District last year Me and Ricky where sat in are tent and we could'nt stop laughing as you and Marie where discussing "it goes here" and then the next comment "was its not long enough "

Just recieved confirmation about the rallyday and thanks for our application for the event ,club packs will be sent out on the 26th May ....
Also been sent an invite to attend a 50th Birthday party for the British Rally Championship at Chatsworth in the evening the party will be an informal one with food Music and various interviews with past winners of the rally ....Prices for this are £17:50 per head although i suspect the quiz and curry night in Mikes tent will be party enough for us A2 Onwers LOL !!!!
They are also having a hospitality marquee with 100 places available for purchase if anyone is interested the location im told will give superior viewing of the rally stage ,tables with between 8 and 10 seats are available for exclusive or shared use .....bookings for less than 8 will be on a shared table .......price for this is £8 per seat ...

Hi Guys,
I've not shown much interest in this years Rally show, etc, as the 7th & 8th is the last weekend of our 2wks annual leave and not sure where we would end up.
As it now happens we return from France on the 5th .
Can't make the Saturday but we were hoping to join you at Chatsworth again on the Sunday like last year.
As you're not doing Chatsworth on the sunday what are the other arrangments, as we might join you for that instead.
Cheers

Whats happening on the Sunday ? Are you at Chatsworth Rally again or doing something different?
Cheers, Bob.
Hi Bob
We will most likely have a drive on the Sunday taking in a few beauty spots for photographs and a visit to somewhere such as a minature railway but this is to be confirmed. We'll likely start at the camp site once Mike's tent has been decommissioned and demolished - about 5pm then!
Seriously, we will probably set off at 10am. Actually finding something to do in the Peak District that doesn't involve cream tea is a challenge!

Apologies for being quiet on this one. I was keen to get along to the camping event (and so was Will, who enjoyed meeting everyone at the Coventry museum social), but for reasons that some of you know, I'm without an A2 at the mo, and the garage haven't confirmed a time for its return.
If it's back in time, I'll be doing my best to put in an appearance!

Alan, if it's any help last year I was in an A3 Sportback which wasn't much cop but the event more than made up for it.
MORE NEWS
Topical, no less
The drive on Sunday morning will be setting off at about 10am; we will make our way up towards Ladybower and Derwent resevoirs, the location of the practice run for 'Dambusters' WW2 raid, which appears to be a lovely spot and location for the pictures to be taken and there is a small museum about the practice for the bombing by 617 squadron for those who wish to have a look.

I'm going to try and get to the campsite on Friday morning now as attending my concert is looking like a right PITA.. so as long as I can sell the tickets I'll make it on the Friday, otherwise I won't arrive until the Saturday :(
Due to work commitments, I won't be at the camp site until Friday at about 3pm - apologies to those coming on Thursday but there is something that I can't get out of...

I think I will be coming along on friday, lunch time... unless many will turn up on thursday
The information!
Dear All
I have the information in my possession including 13 passes and 9 car passes (I hope that's correct...).
The club area has changed from last year - those of you who came will remember it as the place we stood and watched that 911 spank it into the tree.
The important difference now is we need to be there before the exhibition starts as we will be using the 'normal' Chatsworth entrance; the organisors will not permit anyone into the club enclosure if they arrive after 11am
Accordingly, we will leave the camp site at 09:30 at the latest and that will be the rendez-vous for all those coming on the Saturday - please don't be late. The address of the campsite is:
Greenhills Holiday Park
Crowhill Lane
Bakewell
Derbyshire
DE45 1PX
If you are going to struggle with this then call me - if you don't have my number then PM me ASAP - I won't be able to access the internet from about 11:30 tomorrow (Friday). WoolyA2 (Carl) also has my number and won't be coming (boo hoo) so if you can't PM me before 11:30 then contact Carl.
Other than that, looking forward to seeing some new faces and the old faithful's again!
We have the mini BBQ ready for tomorrow - that'll be rain and howling winds then...

Great!!! I'm packing as we speak. Tobi and his A2 can't make it... grrr. He had to fly out on business at the last moment.
But I'll be leaving London around 9:30. So see some of you around lunch time...
Have a safe trip.

... most enjoyable time.
Thanks for the moral support on getting the A2 sorted.
Thanks to the curry management team ...
Thanks to my breakfast pals, R&M, you know who you are.
Back home with nice sun glow.
Look forward to next one, and in the meantime seeing all those posed and "stitch-up" pictures.

Di and I would just like to say a huge thanks to Chris, Ian and Carl for their initial "behind the scenes" organisation and to everyone who attended for making this weekend another memorable event.
It was great to see the regulars again, to put a face to a name... Johann & Maddy and to meet some new faces in James, (prospective A2OC'er) and Rod.
Top weekend, top company, top car and top owners club. :)

Yes, a top social once more, with a record breaking 13 A2OC-ers in the canvas cavern!!
So nice to have a dry tent to pack for a change and the brilliant weather (9 celcius by my reckoning;)) helpedto round off a truly superb camping social.
Apart from the busy-ness of the Derwent Valley and an over enthusiastic traffic warden, the social concluded well in a slap up meal and rough planning of future social timetables.
Hope everyone else enjoyed and got home safe (Alan, what sort of speeds must you have done!!!???) and see you all next time.
Cheers,
Mike
PS I'll get some photos up soon.

There are now a few photos in the Gallery section - until a new folder is created, there's 4 shots in the 'Socials' root folder.
Cheers,

Another brilliant social including new faces, familiar faces and the token random bloke who graced the fire last night! :) I lokk forward to a few more in the pipeline over the coming months.
We had a pretty decent journey back, the convoy of Chris & Marie, Alan, Rich and myself slowly thinning out as we travelled southbound.. I made it back just before 5, so plenty of time to unload and watch the F1!
I can't take any credit for this one as the organisation was done by Chris and Carl (in his ex-social sec position!).. however look forward to the next one at the end of July :D
Time for bed!

Ok - New category created; Mike's photos moved; I'll be there next time.
