Hi everyone,

This morning on the way to work, my A2 (tdi 1.4 SE) made a horrendous noise - then started whining when i revved it.

The noise seems to have settled a bit now but the engine is idling really heavily (sort of chugging)

Has anyone else had similar problems?? Do you know what it could be??

Not much to go on there - are there any other symptoms, lack of power etc?

I'd suspect a pipe off somewhere, either blown, split or similar.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Mike,

It seemed to start when i was in the wrong gear for a hill.

No lack of power, just the heavy idle.

I'll have a look and report back, haven't had a chance to look under the bonnet yet.

Ok, had a look under the bonnet and there doesn't seem to be anything loose, disconnected or leaking so i take it all the pipes are ok.

Still idling very heavily but other than that it seems fine.

It's still under warranty so I'm taking it to get checked out

OK - a scan is the best way forward.

Some of the pipes are very well hidden by the bulkhead, so I wouldn't be surprised if one was off.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi deejaydee
The engine would be on full turbo boost at the time so Mike's theory is pretty sound. If you can't find a loose / split hose then check the charge air cooler core and end tanks for damage (this happened to another club member recently)

Thanks guys,

Still can't see anything - it's going in to the garage tomorrow so I'll keep you posted.

Split pipe - cost = £0.00

The garage cut 10mm off the pipe and refixed it. running like it was prior to the fault.

Thanks for the diagnosis guys.
