View Full Version : A2 TDi 90bhp
Hi,
Can someone tell me when the TDi got the boost to 90bhp as this is the model i'm looking for. were both TDi's produced at the same time or was there a change over point.
Just to make my search a little easier.
Cheers
Marc

2004 is the short answer :D
it has other noticeable features too (it will have the slatted grille for example as per the later A2's) also, rear brake discs fitted to 90's as opposed to 75's.

Yes, model year 2004 and 2005 so you need production date /first on roead from ~8/2003 or newer.
But the 90PS is a different engine, so they also produced the 75PS until 2005.

i thought it was the same engine?

The engines do have some differences in respect to cooling, and the TDI 90 is attached to the dual-mass flywheel where as the TDI 75 is single.
Originally the TDI 75 had a fixed-vane turbo, but for EU4 compliance this was replaced with the variable vane turbo, which the TDI 90 has.
Do a search on here as there are plenty of previous discussions on the topic. Production of the TDI 90 was from Late 2003 (2004MY, so the first registered cars will be about September 2003) until mid-late 2004. You will find a few TDI 90's on '55' plates but they have been sat in a field somewhere. Mike (Skipton) got one of the last TDI 90's ordered from the factory, and I think his was delivered October 2004.
There is a 2005 'Special Edition' for sale on Autotrader claiming to be the 90PS model - it 'aint.

Yes, there are less than 7000 cars with the 90PS in the world;)
Would i be right in saying that all TDi 90's have rear discs as appose to the 75's drums

Absolutely correct, unless someone has decided to retrofit drums instead for some bizarre reason, but that is so unlikely.
However, don't confuse a TDi 90 with the 1.6 FSi, which also has rear discs.
Cheers,
Mike

Its either of those two I'm after so whatever come up first, i am swaying my to the TDi side though, with the amount i drive I'd only fill the tank 4/5 times a year.

But you will find out if it's an FSI. It has the bigger (thicker) rear spoiler. And this one also is mounted higher.
See image.

Tis interesting that Audi would take the time and effort to move and add a different spoiler to the FSi. That's something else I've learnt... :)

The 1.6FSI and the 1.2TDi have the big spoiler. (higher mounted and therefore a bit longer. And thats why it is bigger at the edges but for a good view, not in the middle. So the rear window is different (wholes are higher).
I am quite sure, I know why that is (if anyone is interested):
They invented the 3l car as a very lightweight and aerodynamic car. This has a cw=0,25.
The normal 1.4 A2 has cw=0,28.
This good aerodynamics needed the higher mounted spoiler. But this one is even in the back view. As Audi decided to make it a mass-produced car, they decided to to a deeper mounted spoiler for all the ladies out there ;) :D and other people who would worry because of the bad view through the rear mirror (you have two rear windows: one above and one under the spoiler).
As you see in the image, the normal spoiler is not working realy effective! It is 1,5-2 " too deep mounted. Thats why I in person decided to fit the projektzwo-spoiler.
By the way: the last image shows the producer/and part of the production of that video, you linked here: http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6899&highlight=video http://youtube.com/watch?v=nDL41d-LsP8&feature=related
