Which MAC should I buy?

Yes it is raining again! But seriously, I am considering defecting from PC to MAC

I want to record music - probably using Pro-tools and used a friends older gen G4 desktop last year with him driving it - results can be heard at www.angelorange.com

But I am new to all this stuff and used to Mircrosoft gear.

Plan is to get a refurbished MAC eitehr a powerbook G4 or desktop G4 - or go onto ebay and buy that way?

Any advice appreciated guys and gals! Thanx ;)

Hello Lukas!
If you plan on taking the Mac along I´d go for a used Powerbook G4 (667 or 867 Mhz, depending on your budget) with an USB audio interface. Otherwise go for a used PowerMac G4 from 733 Mhz up....
If you are used to Windows, I think it will be easy to get used to Mac OS X....

I have a G4/933 at home and a 12" PowerBook for mobile/work use (made from anodized aluminium..:-)

you will love Mac OSX, it's so much better than windows, far more robust and much more elegant.

Make sure you get an Apple flat panel display to go with your machine, the resolution and colour saturation are fantastic.

just tried to buy a G4 on ebay - there are some dodgy characters out there - don't buy from this one!

...and get an iPod! I use my iPod in my A2 all the time, great! btw depends what kind of work you want to do on your future mac, but the 15' powerbooks (no 400 or 500, too slow for mac Os X jaguar) are very nice. I have myself a 800 PB with a 22' cinema display at home, fab!

I´d recommend a dual 1 GHZ system, there are some new ones on ebay for around 1600 Euros...
