Now that the great debate of last week has been resolved, I'm pleased to say that I have finalised all the details for the social on 1st June 2003.
Please note - tickets for this will not be available on the day, they are only available (at a discount) from me in advance and will be collected on arrival for entrance to the facility and for lunch.

As discussed last week, there will be a subsequent social at Duxford (UK) followed by a European event - please let me know if you can help organise this.

Unfortunately the off roading/karting cannot be booked in advance but I'm sure we can still get a good few of us on at the same time.

Oi!. What's wrong with a Corolla?. Not my fault I had an Audi dealer from hell!. I would probably still have an A2 if it wasn't for the grief I suffered.
Anyway you can all marvel at my superior motor vehicle.........
I'll be the calming affect on the social-stop people from suffering A2 overload.

Also, if anyone is planning to buy anything from Martyn and collect on the day and it is fairly quick to fit (e.g. rear cup holder) and we've done it before I'm sure we will be able to help each other on the day? I'll bring my toolbox and socket set for example.
Is this a good idea? Will we be able to set aside the time?

Ditto, the ferry-fare is not fair :D Meaning to say that it's quite expensive to get myself AND the A2 to britain and home again...

I'm planning on coming-just got to decide if it's a day's drive there and back or a stop over. Being in Norwich it's probably shorter distance than the Kent social was.
It's suprising that Norwich is on a level with the Midlands really-pity we don't have decent roads to get there!.

At present it is available via 2 links on this page, whereas if it was more pronounced it might grab more peoples attention, especially thise who are first time visitors to your site.

we'll try our best to be there on the first of July...as it is with my wifes job its very hard to plan anything too far in advance. She does have a training in London sometime in June...hopefullly we can arrange that for the end of June and then stay on a little.
Germany will definitly have to be present this time again.
We would love to come and that what you have arranged looks really good.
Have a good Saturady night... don't drink too much. Sunday you have to wash the car and take it for a little spin.

Stuart and everyone
I and my floppy wiper expect to be at the social (90%)sure + my son as minder and driver home. It all depends on my chemo, the insurance money is running out fast, and I will be diverted (?) to NHS and I know they are doing 7 day weeks to catch up. I should know for sure within the next 3 weeks, 'cos the money will have gone by then. £15k for 5, maybe 6 sessions if I'm lucky!!!! Frightening ennit?

:D;)It looks like we can make it now. I'll either be totally knackered (chemo No 8 just finished), or OK (chemo No 8 to start on the Monday. No worries though Peter will drive assuming he arrives home from the rock concert in time!. So that's one more floppy wiper with A2 attached, and 2 people. Stuart, the cheque is in the post (where have I heard that before?).
I'll be joining the M25 junc. 29 about 0830, if I am there first I will chalk a cross on the wall, If anyone else is there first, rub it off.[13]

Stuart, I hope you are'nt offended by this, but here's my reservations concerning the June 1st social.
The thing that's putting me off, is having to commit myself ( by purchasing a ticket in advance ) to being able to attend. I'm sure I'm not the only A2 owner ( and keen supporter of this great Forum ) who through personal circumstances, might not know until close to the day of the event, whether or not they can attend.
I realise of course that these events have to be planned ahead, particularly when catering is involved, so could late " deciders" ( or late arrivals ) be allowed for by perhaps paying a reduced fee at the gate and foregoing the meal? Maybe it would boost numbers a bit?
What do other folks think? or am I sacked?

Of course you're not sacked! You are entitled to an opinion and this is the best place to get it across. Believe me I do understand your comments, and if I wasn't the organiser, I'd probably be the same - and to be honest in the case of some events it may be possible for people to just turn up on the day, but it's just not possible with this one.
The £12.00 per person pays for entrance to the museum AND the buffet lunch.
This is broken down as: £8.00 for lunch and £6.00 for discounted group museum entry - so the
real price is actually £14 per person, but I am subsidising each ticket by £2.00 and not making any profit on each ticket.
I desperately want the club to grow and events like these really make a big impact and help spread the word which is why have subsidised the price myself.
In terms of turning up on the day, with respect - what am I to do? Stand at the gates waiting for people to come all day and hand out tickets? Why should I enjoy the day any less than anyone else? I don't want to do that and nor will anyone else - atleast not until there are a significant numbers of cars going such as 40-50.
The requirement to pay for tickets in advance is purely because I have to confirm numbers with the museum one week before for the purposes of the buffet lunch and because I will be billed for the number of tickets collected by them on the day. That's not to say that people cannot purchase a ticket from me the day before or on the day, but I would need notification of this so that I could let the museum know and this could be at the risk of there not being enough food - which would be unfair on the people that did pay in advance. If I was to give out tickets to people on the day, then I would have the additional responsibility of chasing people for money and collecting it on the actual day which I think would cause more frustration as currently when you turn up having paid in advance, there is nothing further you need to pay in order to have a fun day out with lunch.
In terms of availability, I don't agree with you. I understand that some people may have the requirement to work on Sundays (or maybe have exceptional personal circumstances that drive their availability) and therefore may not know until nearer the date if they are available or not. But for the majority of people - you are either free or not on Sunday 1st June. If you are free and want to come and show support for your club, then you write the event in your diary/palm pilot/organiser, pay the fee and come along and if you're busy that day, then you don't. To me it's as simple as that...available or not!
So in answer to your question, due to the price and how it is worked out, a reduced price at the gate is just not possible (for this event) - that's not to say it can't be done at other events, just not this one.

If circumstances are such that advance notification is not easy then I suppose you could always come as a member of the public, but in an A2, and meet up (could anyone do that Stuart?). You would obviously not expect the buffet, but you could bring sandwiches, and of course full price admission would apply, it is not within Stuarts gift to change that. For the full copper bottomed "do" as arranged then I can see that advance notification is necessary in this instance. If Stuart agrees with my assumption then I am sure you would be most welcome.

Stuart, all what you say sounds fair enough to me, and of course I will do my best to come to the Social, under the same conditions as everyone else.
I only mentioned "paying at the gate" because I assumed that to be the method of "punter" payment/entrance to the Gaydon site, but naturally would'nt have expected anybody to hang around all day waiting for stragglers!
I hope the event is a great success.

Quick update...
We're now up to 25 adults and 2 children, coming in 15 A2s and 2 other cars.
I'm not sure if any of you were thinking of organising a convoy drive of some sort or to meet and drive up together. We could agree a Northern and a Southern meeting point on the way there at certain junctions on the M40 if anyone wants to drive in convoy on the way there?
Does anyone know where there are services near to the social location on the M40?
We can certainly try and do some form of convoy drive at the end of the day if enough of us are ready to leave...

Services at J8 M40. I will be crossing my legs by then and am aiming to be there at 1000. Timing can't be guaranteed, but that's Plan A. I should join M25 Junc 29 at 0830ish! Unless there is another plan?
There is also a services just north of Gaydon, so from the North we could meet there. I guess the BIG convoy will be from the South though?
