Hi and thanks guys, I have had a lot of interest in the LED's that I fitted on my car, thanks to all for your enquiries. I thought I would put up some pics of what they are, with more info to follow.
I have 'white' and 'red' ones, other colours are available, I know some people using 'ice blue' without any problems.
These are waterproof, 12v DC, draw very little power, so can be plugged in anywhere on the car.
Some of them come with double sided tape on the back so they can simply be peeled and stuck on anywhere.
Please register your interest/confirmation as I will place an order together.
By the way thanks for the PM's ;)
Regards

Hey Sarge
Do you have a picture of the clip on headlights?
I had a look at headlights today and there seems to be two clips
one on top and one at bottom, removed both clips but still
having problems taking the lens apart.

That'll be a glued shut headlight. The 'glued shut' lights I recently re-worked had one clip on top and one on the bottom. I spotted on some earlier (clipped) lights several clips all the way around the headlight.

As far as I can recall, there is about 6 clips on each light, these have to be removed very carefully, and lift them from the black housing side and not the lens side.

What is it you need to know mate? To remove the lights you will need to remove 2 bolts holding them in, one on top, and other behind where the grill would be after the bonnet is removed. Then disconnect the wiring plug, and lift out the headlights. I advise to give them a good clean before opening them up as dirt will fly around when you open them, and can get inside. Remove the clips lifting them up from the casing side and not the lens side, this is so not to cause stress on the the flimsy bits of plastic on the lens side, as they can break.
You should have about 6 clips, after removing these the light just comes apart.
As for the glued type, I'm sorry I haven't seen these as yet, and you will need to improvise.
Hope it helps mate.

The process is the same for the glued type lights, except there are only two clips and the lights won't come apart without serious modification (i.e. you have to cut away a small section of the casing to cut the glue). It can be done but it takes a while...and it hurts your hands.

Thank's Lads I'll give it a go this weekend, One more thing Keith how much of the plastic casing would i need to remove? ("",cm,mm):D

You have to remove about a cm all the way around the edge of the casing. It's clearly defined as it is the square lip that encapsulates the edge of the lens. Once you have trimmed this part off you can get a knife between the lens and the casing. I would suggest you heat the light up with a hot air gun/bath/oven first as the plastic is really tough/stiff. Once its nice and warm it'll be fairly easy to cut (use a new Stanley knife blade, and watch your fingers).
Good luck.:)

How about the same with indicator orange and running off them in between so it looks like the newer models?

I HIGHLY ADVISE that you obtain a spare set of clusters before you start heating/cutting/prising your existing light clusters apart.

Nice one sarge!, I am thinking if the rear brake lights can be made LED, a bit like the A6 Avant and I do like those rear led brake lights.
I seem to remember not using a traditional bulb at the rear will cause a DIS warning tho (not that I have DIS anyway).

I am looking into that. The Dash Bulb failure warnings are usually because the LED lights consume less current and the system thinks as there is not enough current being drawn, then the bulb must be blown. There is ways around this by using a 'load' resistor, or using led replacements of the same wattage. No big deal ;)
I am trying to get a hold of a set of rear lights, to see IF I can successfully adapt them to FULL LED type, anyone have a spare set? :o

The trouble with the rear light clusters is that the units are welded together and as the outer red part is transparent, you can't separate them to get to the inside without it showing.
I have a pair of rear lamp clusters that I was going to mod but I gave up in the end - it's just not worth it. Load resistors run far too hot to be practicable and you'll mess up the cruise system (if installed) as well.
Things such as A6 Avants and A8s which have rear LED clusters have a massive amount of electronic jiggery pokery to get the things to work and even retro fitting this would be a sod to do.
My two penneth worth!

Mike

But on the inside...
I managed to change the 42mm festoon light in the front and the two 36mm festoon-lights in the rear for LED's.
I tried to change the two readinglights in the front with LEDS (9Bsc-bajonet), but they won't do it??
Thought it was just a swap from the ligths?

@dan_b
In the back it looks bright white.
In the front, with only the middle bulb changed and not the two reading lights, it looks silly.
Something is changing to the on/of switching too I believe, since the led have a + and - side.
I'll make a photo of the lights and post it here. (just some moments please)

L.

I do wonder what it looks like in the A2. Does it dim as the light goes out? or a sudden cut off? The E90 3-series has interior white LEDs and they dim quite well.
I last sat in another car with all interior lights swapped to white LEDs, but the overall effect is too cold, a bit office lighting if you know what I mean. So I personally prefer the warmer colour incandescent bulbs for the inside.
Skipton01
27-08-2008, 12:29 AM
My home-made LED interiors dim quite well, but are a little cold - there is a better range of warm white Leds available now though, but if I wait till the present ones blow, I'll be old, very old!

Mike

I have replaced all interior bulbs with LEDs and much prefer them.. yes, they are less orange, and hence appear 'ccol' as opposed to 'warm' but the amount and quality of the light is much improved.
Edit: watch out for the polarity of the front map reading lights, it's the reverse of what's required by LED bulbs ;)

Can you explain this a bit more.
I swapped the front map reading lights with a B9s-bajonet led-light, but it won't burn :-(
How do I make it work?

It is proberbly likely that the + (plus) and the - (minus) are in opposite positions, therefore it won't work.
LED's are polarity specific and won't work if they are the wrong way around. :)

I can't recall the fitting, but if it is of this type and they dont' work then you will need to modify the wiring by simply swapping the two wires around.
I don't expect that you will find these led lights with the polarity reversed, unless you can open them and do it yourself.

I presume you installed your led strips inside the headlamp casing.
I managed to get my hands on two similar strips, the only problem being they have the an adhesive underside, and not the top side, in order to stick them directly to the interior of the headlamp plastic glass. My guess is they're designed to be sticked to the bumper or something similar.
How did you manage to fix them to the inside of your headlamp?
_________________________3 days later
After almost five hours including removing and refitting the headlamps, my LED strip mod is ready. I'm so excited, it's now the second one after adding the subwoofer last month.:D
The effect is sick, hope i won't get in trouble with the "non friendly" "no mods" local police.
Does anyone know if the LED's are sensible temperatures below zero degrees? I'd hate to have to open my headlamps every spring to replace the burnt areas.

I think I am right in saying that LEDs do not give off any heat, so there should be no burning.
