Hi all,
I am thinking of upgrading the wheels on my a2, it does have alloys at present but they are the original 15" shiny alloy ones that audi for some reason launched late on (its an 05 plate).

I am thinking of making it look better by changing the wheels, I dont want anything to extreme possibly just a set of the 16" 6 spoke that alot of a2s came with as standard or any other suggestions that you may have.

I dont want to do any cutting of the arches or anything like that.

So if you have any ideas of what will look good and fit straight on or if you have any for sale please let me know, thank you.

Ebay truely is full of bargains.

I bought these babys for £194, with 6mm tread on 4 Dunlop SP Sport 9090 tyres. You will find them new with extreme budget tyres on ebay starting from around £400. If you want good tyres you're looking a few hundred over that :)

I have been looking for new wheels for around a month. If you have the patience to hold out with your current wheels, and just keep on sculping for the goods, eventually something is going to pop-up that is very cheap, and very good quality.

save your money!
those 15" wheels are classic!
bigger wheels just mean a harsher ride and larger tyre bills. I run 195 60 15s and they work a treat at absorbing the knocks that skinnier tyres just dont do
been there, done that, lost the filling...
get some fsd Konis instead. by far the best investment you can make for the car

I'll go along with what d4v1d is saying, the 15" wheels are the strongest, less chance of buckle etc. and good looking as a bonus!. By the way david, the top man on wheel/tyres (Schnelletrecker) recommends best tyre size for 15" as, 195/55 R15 HR, with KONI's fitted, as i have! see you have 195/60s are they OK (fitting wise?) ie good fit to rim area? i'll be looking to replace mine shortly so would be nice to know,
Thanks, ALAN.

Schnelletrecker is correct with regards to the 55 series tyres but 195 60 15 are cheaper and more readily available. they are a bit baloony so you must maintain pressure but i have found no problems yet and i am on my second set of conti h rated tyres which i find are softer in the sidewall and hence give a more compliant ride than vr or higher speed rating tyres. remember that the A2 is very light and part of the design of a tyre is to deal with the weight of the car through the sidewall stiffness at speed and load which in our case is lower than a traditional car.

Well, the highly recommended 195/55R15 tyre size characterises one of the best trade-offs for the A2 between tyre related very comfortable elastic suspension/damping and unsprung weight.

A 195/60R15 size on the other hand is quite a bit heavy for the A2. Increased unsprung weight does reduce travel comfort because the wheel isn’t able to follow all road irregularities as quickly as it should. :(

Even premium shock performance of Koni FSD or Bilstein B6 for instance is affected negatively by too much of unsprung weight (that effect also applies to an A2 being upgraded with a powerful 320 mm front brake system of the S3 or TT for instance).

Furthermore over here the TÜV regulations determine a certain minimum and maximum possible wheel perimeter for each car. The 195/60R15 size for example would not be permitted on an A2 without re-matched speedo reading!

Best tyre related ride comfort results (and also rim protection as a positive side effect) will be achived if combining a 195 tyre with a rim width ranging from 5" to 6", allowing the tyre side walls to absorb bumps effectively.

Great buy young man!! The A2 looks fab with these wheels - even if the ride is a tad bumpy. If you can find a similar bargain set of Koni FSD's I'll buy a some as well!!! :D
