This is the American one, near Tucson Arizona. Some pretty exotic hardware there, B1-Bs, F-111s etc.
There is supposed to be one in Russia, but I've yet to find it.
Cheers,
Mike

Having driven a Aston Martin DB9 who would let this happen? you'd think they would recycle knowing how much there parts cost!!

A while ago I visit the Aston Martin / Land Rover / Jaguar research site near Coventry. There is a car park there full of these prototypes! They are obviously quite hot on security, so no cameras are allowed on site, but I got to see the new LR Disco and Freelander 2 years before it was launched in the UK. Most of the cars are mules / crash test / wind tunnel prototypes and are not road worthy, hene they are scrapped. They have to secure them in case any one borrows parts from them!! As the parts are pre production and may not be full spec. ie if they are crash testing then as long the parts weigh the same as the production ones then the exact size or colour is less important. So some of these prototypes have awful panel gap finish!!!!! :D

I recall Autocar/Autoexcess ( can't remembner which) doing a feature on the scrapping of a pilot build Astra and how scrap cars can be re-cycled these days. For the reasons above and unlike in years gone by when the odd prototype or pilot build car could 'escape' they tend to get broken up now. One of the few exceptions was on the demise of MGR in 2005 some R25's and ZT's with updated K engines and a brand new diesel along with some experimental JTD engined stuff were sold off by the receivers and are now in regular use.

In the late 80s I used to work for an auto design consultancy in Leamington Spa. The engineering division did a lot of work in the UK for GM USA and so sample cars would be imported to the UK but no tax was paid on them. To avoid the import duty at the end of the projects these had to be either repatriated at great expense or destroyed under the watchful eye of a UK customs and excise inspector. Engine, drivetrain and suspension had to be stripped out and cut up with a torch and the bodywork and trim put 'beyond use'.
A bunch of us from the design (styling) studio once spent a strangely satisfying afternoon trashing a nasty metallic pink Cadillac Seville with sledgehammers to ensure that none of the exterior or interior parts could be reused. :D
I do have photos somewhere!

Here's a couple of the pics I took. The body 'receiving attention' at the start of the process by two of my colleagues (slightly over-dressed for the task!) and the engine/gearbox waiting to be cut up by the workshop staff. That drivetrain is a subframe-mounted V8 Transverse FWD by the way.

Excuse my incompetence, but how do I make my Google Earth find that site?

You should just be able to click on the hyperlink to launch Google Earth. It will then take you straight to the location.
I just tried it. The place is amazing.

It didn't automatically associate for me, I had to paste the url into the "googlemaps" address bar from within GoogleEarth. Looked stunnig once I got there though! 4,400 aircraft apparently.
