Having owned 1.4tdi se for over 2years as my wifes car during day and family car other times have opinions on car and want to change only one thing, low profile tyres.also have mk3 golf tdi and vw t4 transporter in family.audi is brilliant wee motor like a swiss watch but bumps bad roads and speed bumps are brutal.
Has anyone retrofitted smaller tyre wheel combination? on fuel cap alternate tyres are 155 65r15,165 65r15,175 60r15 and 185 50 r16 which is current fitment on nice alloys.tyres needed shortly so would prefer to go high profile 165 etc on suitable wheels. have tried out car on extreme cornering braking etc and limits are way beyond highway use so think smaller tyre would suit fine especially fo comfot and fuel use. i always buy car van etc with min expected use of 7yrs if not more so figure long term benefits. any tips ideas?

I don't think anything smaller than 15 will fit because the brakes are relatively large.
The 1.2 has 14" and 145/80R14; I think the 175/60R15 are the smallest homologated tyre.

155/55R15 and 165/65 are only winter tyres, I think. They certainly used to be.

Other option: change the shocks for FSDs, 185/50s are pretty cool if you ask me. I've been in a 15"-tyred A2 in Munich, I have winter 15s, I've had a 16"-shod TDI for the weekend, mine used to have 205/40s and now has 215/40R17s. I've also been in a 215/35R18 with Weitec springs, again in Munich. All reasonable, but the 185s are a really good combination of grip and comfort IMO.

If you are interested in the standard Audi 15" polished alluminum alloys then I have 4 available. I changed them because I thought they were too small, but of course many people, like yourself, desire smaller wheel/tyre combos for your own reasons.
