Various Mods Planned/booked!

My car is now booked into Awesome on 24th for Koni FSD/Weitec package, Tarox pads/discs, K & N filter and a RR session to set up my plug n' play Tuning Box! Having played a bit more at home with the settings am a bit happier with the box so will wait until after the above mods before deciding on the Awesome re-map. If the RR shows more than 100 horses ( say 105 or so) with similar % torque gains then I will probably forego the remap route. Must make sure I have a tankful of Ultimate or similar to get the best out of it!

I note in another thread Skipton is quoting £350 for FSD's including Weitec springs, excluding fitting.....Awesome are quoting me £353 just for the FSD's excl. springs/VAT/fitting......springs quoted at just over £100. Am I missing out on a better deal somewhere?

That price is what I paid a year ago and remember, I have front Weitecs only. It would seem that the prices have increased substantially in the interim (hasn't everything!?)

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Mike, Awesome did say the FSD's have gone up @ £50 in past few weeks........thats partly why I am foregoing the re-map, my budget no longer stretches that far.....:(

As an aside I found a Shell garage now selling V power diesel in Leeds and filled up last Friday, car does seem to have a bit more ooommph. Will run a couple of tanks back to back with Ultimate and see how it goes. Have also been told Total Excellium diesel is good and it seems to be a coup[le of pence cheaper than Ultimate/V power ( typically 118.9p litre around here.)

Hi Adrian888
I paid £335 including vat for FSD's from Larkspeed last year but their price is now £415!!
Does your budget still stretch to the rolling road session to set up your tuning box? If so, it would be great if they did a before and after, just with the K&N air filter to see the difference it makes.

Cheers Spike

Yes Spike, still want the RR to optimise the 'box settings. Seem to have found the best setting so far but there still seems to be a 'flat spot' @ 3000/3500 rpm which mapping appears to erradicate. I am also not sure it is getting to the 100+ horses it is claimed to acheive and which a re-map does seem to be able to get to.

Hopefully with the ride/handling sorted and the stopping improved I can get good cross country journey times without spending more on the engine output. Having said that the plonker I was following this morning at 40 in a 60 zone ( and carried on at 40 in a 30 zone....:( ) made me wish for my T8 Astra back......( 200 horses from a diesel:D)... the gaps in the oncoming traffic were just too small to blast past him in the A2.

The price difference is most probably an exchange rate thing (the pound is very week against the euro right now). I remember a time when you could get very cheap parts from Germany (we got some FK mk2 polo suspension very very cheap indeed - 200 including lowered springs).

I'd like to see how your car sits (and hear how it handles) with the new suspension on it. Are you lowering it all (ie. are the Weitec spring -30mm?)?

I am going for 30mm alround. Initially I had not intended changing the springs but The FSD's have the effect of slightly raising the ride height by about 15mm ( which I didn't want) so overall it should only sit about 10/15mm lower than standard.

Ok. Would love to hear how you get on with them compared to standard.

As an aside, Awesome are only around the corner from me. I've been there with many of my cars.

It is most definately the exchange rate! The Sterling / Euro exchange rate has gone up by 19% in the past eight months. More worrying it shows no sign of stopping. Are we heading for parity?

John.

I hope not. A lot of car parts are from the continent for a start (not to mention a whole host of other things that aren't on topic).

For anyone intending keeping their A2 a while and is unhappy with the ride I can definately recommend the FSd's! The teethfilling loosening pothole crashing has all but gone. Not sure about the benefit of the Weitec springs tho' other than from an appearance aspect, I suspect standard springs work better but the car will sit high. Overall the car is about 10/15mm lower. Braking is improved and the new filter seems to allow the engine to spin up a bit quicker. Unfortunately due to problems removing one of the front struts and a problem with the RR didn't have time to get any figures. The Awesome set up is excellent and the staff very polite and helpful. Irlam itself is not exactly a thriving metropolis so if anyone intends having any lengthy work carried out I highly recommend taking a courtesy car.......When I went back in the afternoon to have a coffee in their waiting area the first magazine I saw was Performance Tuner from last March with my very own T8 Astra featured on the cover...sob...

Have now booked a remap for Monday ( not from Awesome), will update on Tuesday on performance! Final mod to car is to have privacy/heat reflective film applied to rear windows and thats my budget overspent lol! Tuning box now for sale!

The remap is excellent! £249 ( current offer price) from Custom Code of Chesterfield who are VW tuning specialists. It is a generic map but really gives the car the edge over the box previously fitted, just slight squeeze of throttle at 50 in 5th and upto 70 in no time. Overtaking is so much easier. Now, I wonder what the addition of a tuning box would do for performance....?!
