Hi all,

I am a new owner of an A2 2001 1.4 TDI. As an avid apple user, i am searching for the best solution to hook up my iPhone 3G in the Audi to utilize phone and ipod functions. Ideally a single solution would be great, but i'm not opposed to using a few systems, just looking for the BEST possible solution available.

There is a CD changer in the back which appears to be functioning but i am not able to use? I don't know how to access it on the unit?

Other connected questions:
1) Would i be able to cycle through the ipod options via any of the displays in car? (cluster, cd display etc)

2) Advice on doing it myself.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated. This forum is awesome!

Parrot mki9200

ok, so i opted for a parrot mki 9200 and had it installed by halfords. I have connected an old iPod for the music and use my iPhone via Bluetooth. Sound quality is good, but it only comes out of the front two speakers!

If i have the radio on at the same time i can hear the radio out of the back two speakers and the iPod music on the front two. Problem?

After speaking with Halfords they said they couldn't do much else as it probably has an amplifier and they don't know how to connect it up/adapt it so sound comes out of all speakers and mutes the radio properly.

Anyone have a similar issue or know of a solution other than paying another chunk of change to an Audi specialist?

I should add halfords have offered to take it back out and refund it if i am not happy with the solution.

I have the parrot mk9200 and had exactly the same prob.

I went to halfords they are a bunch of muppets. They wired it up compleatly wrong into my focus and fryed the batterie,cd player.

But there is a very easy fix. they have not cornected one of the wires from the control box to the back of the raidio.

I had to get a parrot instaler to look at it for me so not to sure what wire was not cornected, but I think it was the yellow one and went into the radio mute at the back of the radio unit.

There are some guys on here that know the wiring set up better than me, hopefully they will be able to help a bit more.

If you get no joy send me a pm and I will call the guys who sorted mine out and ask them what they did.

I have just looked on the parrot web site and the user guide and it is the yellow plug into the mute in the back of the radio unit. Its on page 5 of the user guide if thats any help.

When that is pluged in you will no longer get the radio playing when you use your ipod or make calls.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers

Thanks for the info David, nice to know i am not alone. Yeah, the guy who installed it at Halfords really didn't have a clue however his colleague did, shame he couldn't stay and do it for me. I wanted the iPod connector in the glove box, but he couldn't get into it, so squezed the leads to the side of the center console!!!! I told him that wouldn't work at all..who wants a bunch of leads just hanging there...did he really think that was ok?

Hopefully i'll have time to take a look tomorrow. If there is anyone else with advice, diagrams etc. it would be graciously received.

No problem. What were they thinking having the cables coming out of the console:mad: It is possible to have it in the glove box because thats where mine is!

You could cut a small hole in the back of the cubby hole and have the cables in there?

You will only be able to get sound of the front speakers with your i pod of phone. One member from manchester has the mki9200 and got a powered iso lead and that gives him sound out of all 4 speakers. I was looking for the thread and could not find it. If I manage to find it I will post it up.

I dont know if you plan to goto any socials if you do and meet up with Mike Skipton. He would be able to re route the cables for you.

I just found this thread http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=13972&highlight=radio+diagrams

So apparently there is a diagram on the back of the radio with inputs outputs.
So if you cornect the yelllow plug to the mute you should be sorted.

There is a way to get streamed music/nav instructions through all 4 speakers using the Parrot MKi 9000 series.

I am going through the same process myself and contacted Parrot technical to get the necessary info/part no's etc.

Here's the email I recieved -

Ok our Technical team have come back to me you need 2 Leads and 2 adapters an 68611 £19.98, 68869 £4.70, X058CD £55.00, and XA291 £5.00
All including VAT and the carriage is either £7.50 next day courier or £3.50 Royal mail recorded. If you would like to order these please call and ask to speak to myself as out technical guy has also sent me some info for the set up to get full function on your speakers when installing your hands free car kit.

I cant vouch that this all works as I havnt fitted it yet, but they seem quite familiar with the Audi 'half amplified system'.

Hope this helps, but as to getting Halfords to fit it  !!

Thanks Vicki and all. As a new A2 owner i have found this website to be a great community.

I know, Halfords fitting it wouldn't have been my first choice but it was a free installation and they offered to take it out and refund me if it was to my liking, so i thought why not give it a try. Just glad i stuck around to badger him about where i wanted the mic, display, cables etc.

I did end up drilling a hole into the cubby which is perfect. Ironically though they didn't have any drills i could use, nor would Halfords entertain drilling it for me. But it's set up ok.

At this point i think i just want to fix the mute issue and settle for it coming out of the front two speakers. The cost of leads at around 80GBP can wait for another rainy day.

Lastly, should i be able to control the volume through my stereo?

If you go back in to Halfords they should be able to sort out the mute very easyly.

The parott kit has its own amp and bypases the stereo, so you can't control the volume theough it.
You have to use the remote that comes with it. You can turn the stereo off and it will still work!
