2004 A2 Double Din - RNS-E

Hello All,

I am looking for a favour and a bit of knowledge. I have just taken my dead double din Symphony II out of my A2 (2004). I have been told I can replace it with an RNS-E (http://multims.co.uk/audi-navigation-p-63.html) link to the head unit in the brackets. So I am asking;

1. Is this correct
2. How would I go about fitting it? Any additional cables / converters required?

I have also attached some photos.

Thanks for your help.

Chris.

will only the 4B0 035 192, RNS-E work? - there are loads of Audi A4 RNS-e on Flebay, but the A6 ones seem much rarer?

This must be confirmed by specialists, but I think all RNS-E's are OK. Wel, I mean A3, A4, A6 and maybe A8. The TT's doesn't seem to have a flat enough panel and R8's have a different form factor apparently (there are more "vertical"). Gallardo's seem to slot in without mod, but I guess they are rare ! And they need specific DVD's for navigation.
I have to take the plunge sooner or later and hit the "buy it now" button on ebay for a good example of RNS-E... Then a BT module, microphone, and adapters...
About BT modules, I've seen that are other compatible modules than the OEM Audi, and amongst others, one with a Parrot chipset. Anybody knows what's that worth ?

HI John,

I have just fitted an A4 unit in mine without any issues. It still needs cutting to size around the face plate and coding as an A6 unit.

Replacement Symphony

Hello All, as I started the thread I thought I would tell you how my situation ended up. I decided that I did not want to "cut" a £450 RNS-E to make it fit so cant help with model numbers etc. I ended up sourcing a double DIN Symphony I from ebay for £50 so whilst I dont have the cool functions of the RNS-E at least I have tunes again :)

I do still have an issue if anybody can help. The new Symphony will not turn on and off with the ignition or dislay in the instrument cluster. I have tried disconnecting the battery etc as suggested on the web with no results. Any ideas?

Thanks
