1.4 TDi wont start

Hi, 3 months on and my local Audi specialist garage, Southampton Audi, Audi UK, Audi Newbury and Sterling Garage Newbury have not been able to diagnose my non-starting problem with my A2. Audi Southampton advised it was a faulty pulse plate, their scope of the crank sensor showed an irregular pattern, but this has been replaced and it still wont start.

The car turns over but there is not fuel being delivered. So far there has been the following parts replaced:
No1 injector, crank sensor, fuel pump, pulse plate and has had 6 hours of diagnostics from Audi UK. Still wont start.

There is an error code only detected by Sterling 01314 - but I understand this can come from using a cheap cable in the VAG Com diagnostic so might be a red herring. Other than that there are no error codes.

This is very frustrating as you might imagine. Has anyone come across anything like this? Any suggestions. I am desparate now and severly out of pocket, thanks for any thoughts.

Wild guess - The injectors are activated by a camshaft. Solenoids on the injectors control the flow of fuel into the injectors using signals from the pulse wheel to meter the quanty of fuel sent to the injectors. If the camshaft and fuelling signals get out of sync then the correct ammount of fuel won't be injected and the engine won't start. About the only way this could happen is by the cambelt jumping a few teeth.

Going back a step, the most basic reason for non starting is an air leak in the fuel supply system, often caused by a faulty fuel filter

Cheers Spike

Hi spike, got up this morning and my car is doing the same thing. In my case I doubt it’s my cambelt as that was renewed a 6 months ago. I call out the AA tomorrow and if they have no joy I’ll start with the fuel filter BUT it was changed 15 months ago and I’ve not really had an issue since, could it still be the cause?
